Basic Bank Accounts - Debit Cards

I have used the search function and discovered plenty of useful information regarding the pros and cons of the various different basic bank accounts.

I haven't managed to find anything specific on my query hence the new thread...

Out of the different kind of debit cards available with basic bank accounts, which are the most commonly accepted in UK, abroad and online.

The 3 main ones that I'm aware of are :-

Solo
Visa Electron
Maestro

Which would most people recommend and what are the pros and cons of each?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there I have a halifax easycash account with a visa electron and i find it very useful, online banking is good too and haven't come across anywhere that doesn't accept it.
I don't have a solo but have had one in the past and these are quite good too.
I have been and opened up a yorkshre bank readycash account today with a maestro as i am having one account for bills, one for spare money and alot of people say the maestro is good too.

I think it depends what you are looking for in an account, but all are very simular.
Personally I am happy with my halifax visa electron.

    Hope this helps
