Find a company that dont require a receipt. Been a few post with people unhappy with 2nd hand phones.

Manufacturers treat you as a 3rd party so the warranty maybe void even if the phone was bought in its sealed package and totally unused. Your a 3rd party and they may not deal with you.

You may need to go back to the seller for warranty cover.

I dont know how apple cover the warranty. I cannot remember which phone maker the last post was about.

I presume it was an unwanted contract upgrade? So no receipt will be available even from the seller.
Unless its one of the sneaky ones selling refurb phones as new?

Even if you purchased on-line a receipt should have been sent to you by email? Your network can also usually produce 'proof of usage' for the phone which will show that it has been used by you since x (if you're on contract - not sure about pay as you go).

Apple are very good with warranty work. Take it to an apple shop they can retrieve the serial number and see exactly when it was bought and first used. If it dies they can read the serial number off the back.

So the issue you have is for insurance not warranty.

You could try asking at an apple shop if they will print you off a proof of purchase as they do have the information.

Be very careful as I've been caught out here

If you buy the phone from an online auction like eBay even if it's brand new you can't Insure it as it's excluded

If you buy the phone from someone and it's brand new your considered the 'second end user' and a lot of warranties only cover the first end user which is the person who first purchased it. Got caught out by Motorola on that one.

Only if there is a relevant exclusion (there probably is in a lot of mobile specific policies but I've not seen one in a standard household all risks policy). The requirement is usually that you are able to prove your loss, a receipt from eBay will support this.

Can't comment on the warranties section though - presumably if you're purchasing from an online store (a business), the sale of good act will apply (if it's brand new and sealed). It's only a private individual sale which would invoke these conditions.

Protect your bubble for example says

"Any claims for gadgets purchased from an on-line auction site without a receipt as new from a VAT registered company."

I was never supplied with this.... Motorola rejected a warranty claim also because they considered I was the second user of a brand new phone because I didn't make the 'original purchase'. Just giving advice as I was stung by this.
  • I can't go back to the seller as they don't have a receipt and it wasnt from a shop.

I don't have a choice on which company to choose as its the only one Santander provide. I think its called home something

You can insure the phone with anyone you like. But checkout the smallprint.

If your not the original purchaser or didnt buy it from a shop then you may not be covered.
