If you want the discount, you gotta pay the fee- theres no way around it! If your willing to gamble for it then don't pay but wait to see if they have any special offers, they've had two special offer deals so far this year where they sold off the cards at £1 each but they were a limited amount and only on a certain day. I have no idea how you'd find out about these offers without these offers unless you already had a card though.
Work out how much you would be spending in the year and if a 10% discount would more then cover that, (this seems to be the general discount level, though some offer more) and if your going to save money get one, if not, don't bother. Your own student card can count for proof of being a student in some cases so if thats your reason for getting one, check this part out first.
But its safe to say, they're not free anymore!0 -
hiya,
you can get discount with your normal NUS card :-D in fact the only place that I know only take the Extra card is Superdrug. So you don't have to worry you can still get your discounts everywhere. I even think you can use it online for Arcadia group purchases.

The simplest way is to follow them on Facebook or Twitter
or check their website0 -
Its to pay the costs of making the card and the unions get a percentage as well. No?
Some places can't even get an NUS card though due to now affiliation. Not exactly great for some students but lots of places can give you student discount in no order - StudentBeans, StudentCash, RecommendedBy0
