in Credit cards
Hi all,
I have a 'Halifax One card' which pays out cashback. It was 0.5% when I took it out but now it is only 0.25% so I have btter cards to use.
If I close the card will I get the cashback I've already earnt?
Terms aren't 100% clear they say this:
"Once a year we will give you a rebate on all purchases that qualify on your account during the previous year. We will pay rebates at the following rates:-
0.25% of the value of the first £20,000 of purchases that qualify.
There is no rebate for purchases that qualify over £20,000 in any year.
The rebates will be shown on the statement for the month after each anniversary of the date on which you opened your account.
All purchases qualify for a rebate except those which are:
refunded to your account; or
charged to your account in any month if, on the statement date, either the total amount you owe is more than your credit limit or you have failed to make your minimum payment for the previous month by the payment date.
We will not give any rebate when it would otherwise be due if:
this agreement has already ended;
you have missed making your minimum monthly payment twice during the previous year; or
the amount you owe has been more than your credit limit on two statement dates during the previous year"
I'm guessing that the 'agreement has already ended' quote means that if I close it (end agreement) I won't get my cashback. Or am I wrong?
Can anyone clarify this?
Many thanks
Simon

I don't think it is unclear at all. It very clearly states they will not pay cashback if the 'agreement has already ended', I cannot think of any other way to interpret that.0

ARRRRGGHHHH!!!! I just closed my Halifax One account this morning.... totally forgot about the cashback!I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Think it's been posted before, if you close your account you lose the cashback, maybe ring them and confirm it.2p off is still 2p off!0

Maybe you can ring them & say you changed your mind. It MAY not be too late.
What's the point, anyway, of closing a cashback card; other than to improve your credit rating. You may as well wait. You can always close it after you've spent your cashback.Expect the worst & hope for the best...0
