Ring for proposal?

My OH didn't ask my Dad first, but that's because he wanted it to be a surprise and he knows my lot can't keep a secret like that :rotfl:
He picked the ring for me and it was perfect and as we were on holiday I could wear it straight away, even though it was too big. He was never going to get the size right anyway as I am a G (tiny hands!) - he had bought a J to be fair and had been told it was the smallest size (for adults anyway). Had to get it altered when we got back.
But a lot of jewelers will let you exchange the ring within 30 days anyway as they know you're taking a risk on them liking it. I think buy the ring you think she'll like - worst comes to worst its not exactly what she wants and you can exchange it. But I would hope most men know their OH's enough to pick out the right ring 0 0

Don't know why this reminded me...but the other cool thing about speaking to her dad first was that when we went round the day after the proposal to tell her mum, her dad had gone to the trouble of getting a bottle of champers and putting it on ice...so as soon as we told her mum, he popped out of the room and came back with the bottle. Really lovely gesture, I thought 0 0

My OH bought me a £20 Argos silver and cubic zirconia ring to propose with, so I had a ring, then we shopped together online. When we looked though, he had already got 6 saved as a shortlist and I just had the final say.
He has chosen my wedding ring to match.
For me, that was the perfect mix of romance and still being in control!
As for asking Dad, my OH absolutely insisted that he would, when the time was right, he said "I've never done anything properly in my whole life, so I'm gonna do this right!" Me and my Dad were very touched by this, it seemed to be a sign of respect somehow. But how my Dad kept it secret for almost 3 months I'll never know!!!
You know your girlfriend, you know what will work for her!
 Good luck!First date 10.2.2002

I didn't see my OH asking my dad's permission as a 'transferal of property', I asked my OH to do it if he was considering proposing as I knew it would mean a lot to my Dad and would be great for their future relationship as in laws.
On the ring front my OH did order a ring which he thought I would like based on what I had shown him. However, after the company messed him around with delivery times he gave up and proposed without it and used a haribo ring on my 30th birthday. Still quite appropriate as I as I am addicted to sweets.
It wasnt the ring that was important it was actually the words that he said to me which made the moment special.
The ring did eventually arrive but had a massive inclusion in the diamond and had to be sent back which gave me the opportunity to say I didnt really like it! (which I wouldnt have said otherwise!) so we then went and picked a different one together which we both really love.
Whichever way you do it; its the sentiment that counts but I think its nice to have at least something to put on her finger as its all part of 'the moment!'Becoming Mrs L. Aug 2013!

I'm another that wouldn't appreciate my hubbie getting my'parent's permission/blessing but then hopefully couples know this about each other.
My hubbie knows I'm fussy and he would have been scared to get it wrong. I'm sure I would have loved whatever he picked because it was from him but there was a risk he'd go to Argos! He proposed with an engagement ring charm for my links of london bracelet and I dragged him to Hatton Gardens the next day. :-)Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0
