    What damage do you think someone could do with your payslip? Do you really think electronic payslips are less secure than paper ones?

    If you exercise a bit of common sense re online security they are perfectly safe. Same principal as not leaving a paper payslip lying about or hanging out of an unzipped pocket, if you don't want anyone to see it.

    Firstly, lol that anyone took my comment that seriously. But here is a serious point:

    Only 77% of households have internet access. Nowhere near what people are saying.

    Also, where can I go for a £15 flight please that includes taxes and transfers??

THe boss has threatened staff that if they don't provide an email address they won't get a pay slip at all. Surely this is illegal under section 8 of the employment act. Anyone got any advice ???????

    I hardly know anyone with no form of PC in the house
    thats right up to the couple next door who are 80+

    Ryan Air, Easy Jet,..... They have regular promotions selling stupidly cheap flights- My brother got a flight from Glasgow - Paris once for 1p! (inc taxes)

    I get all my payslips online but it is sent via a secure database and I am the only one with the secure passes to get in and open the PDF.

    I'm not disputing that people have internet access through their phones but this isn't the same as having access to print documentation out in a secure way access at the library is not secure....read any info from banks about using computers with shared access, anyone with knowledge can obtain info from the shared computers history, potentially in this case providing unscrupulous characters with opportunities for identity theft . We are talking about low-paid workers, who will need their official/printed payslips to claim housing / council tax benefit and possibly other benefits. Historically councils have had issues with bank statements which have been self-printed because of fraud

    Section 8 of the employment act 1996 suggests that a employee is entitled to a written pay statement.

    At what point did the uk law change to allow an employer to effectively dictate that employees should have private email addresses and that they should provide these to their employer for business purposes. Secondly this employer already seems to have problems with confidentiality and abiding by the data protection act.

    You are interpreting the legislation very literally, and I doubt a court or tribunal would take such a restrictive view. The legislation is old, and "written" communication is now taken to include electronic methods unless specified otherwise. For instance, the Distance Selling Regulations require written notice of cancellation, and email is considered sufficient. Written notice of offer and acceptance in contract law can include email and website communications, and so on.
