Employer changing delivery of pay slips

My question is simple as to whether an employee still has a legal right for their employer to provide them with a printed pay slip/statement?
My OH's employer has asked for all employees to provide an email address as he's no longer printing wage slips instead he plans to email them. I can see how this can work out ok for office / call centre staff, who have access to company computers but OH and majority of his colleagues do not have access to the computers or a printer at work as they are not office staff, and very few have one at home. THe boss has threatened staff that if they don't provide an email address they won't get a pay slip at all. Surely this is illegal under section 8 of the employment act. Anyone got any advice ???????

Nope, a printed payslip is not a legal right I'm afraid. Online slips are becoming more and more the norm now. If your OH wants to print them I'm sure he must be able to somewhere? Has he never booked flights online? How did he print out the boarding passes?
Your local library should have Internet access with printers.0 -
What a bizarre example, printing boarding passes! Is flying on holiday a basic need that everyone does? Why, you simply must have an imac! How else do you order your caviar from Russia good chap?
How about the OP prints her OH's payslips from the computer she uses to post on MSE.0 -
^^
LOL. Chill. It was just an example. Maybe the poster knows the the OP's OH went on holiday sometime and they did it online?
Maybe the OP has no printer so maybe she cannot print from the comp she uses for MSE and does not have the funds/space for a printer plus wads of paper and ink everywhere oh lawdy noooo!
Library is your best place. Free membership. Free computers.
Black and White = £0.10P per page
Colour = £0.40P per page
Plastic Wallets = 0.05P per sheet

I don't understand why you need to print them?
What are you going to do with them?0 -

People like to keep paper records.
You can provide paper copies if and when required to whoever.
If you plan on taking a car for test drive and they request a wage slip, they wont accept email form.
If youre a LTD. working contract. You need to sort out your own taxes etc.0 -
The duty is on the employer to provide pay advice slips on or before pay day. Its up to the employer to comply not employees to facilitate the bosses whims.
Collectively resist.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

Whoa whoa, calm down dear!
Why is it a bizarre example? I was simply making the point that I'm sure 99% of people (Inc the OPs OH) have had to use a printer at some point or another, and managed to find one! A boarding pass for a flight is a good enough example as any other, no?
What is bizarre is your comparison of quaffing caviar and getting the odd £14.99 easy jet flight LOL
And why do you assume that everyone who owns a computer owns a printer? I don't. But if I "need" to use one I don't start panicking, If I can't borrow a friends, I visit my local library or Internet cafe.0 -

I certainly wouldn't be printing off anything containing sensitive data on a public network.
E-mails have their uses, receiving pay slips isn't one of them unless the employee is content and its managed within a secure environment.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

Millions use internet banking. Same applies for timesheets/payslips.
Your email can be prefectly secure if you have a quick read about security and email addresses.
Although i agree about public network to a certain point.0
