Marriott vacations club

Hi i have been on holiday and while there we were approached by marriott regarding there vacations club and asked to go to a presenation to cut along story short i have sighed to become a member i have 14 days to cancel well now only 10 but what i want to know is can anyone give me any advice, or got any experience of this time share company, i though it sounded a good idea at the time:rolleyes: but since getting home and telling family about it they have said i should cancel it as time shares work out too expensive, and have all kinds of problems. This timeshare company is MARRIOTT VACATION CLUB and any advice or experience of this company would be greatly appreciated guys. thanks in advance.

  • Marriott Vacation Club is part of Marriott International, one of the biggest hotel and lodging companies in the world so from that perspective I wouldn't have thought you would have much to worry about as regards their reputation. Whether it is right for you, only you can answer that.

We have owned timeshare for many years and we are big fans.
Prior to buying I did tons of research as it does have a bad name in Europe. This mainly because people do not research it and there are so many bad people involved in the sales etc in Europe. In the USA the locals thrive on timeshare.
    Briefly my advice,
You must never want the money you are paying out again in your life.
Do not expect to make a profit or equity on a timeshare, that is sales talk.
There are yearly charges these can be quite steep, can you afford them, what would you spend on a holiday, it may be the same is this charge.
Become a member of a good reputable exchange club, this will allow you to see the world and get proms like free exchanges, bonus weeks etc.
Marriots as stated are a huge organisation so few issues but remember it is a contract, read it and ensure you understand what you have bought and how you could lose it, one non payment and they (Marriot) will reclaim it.
We spent a lot of money initially then realised the loopholes and managed to sell, but we stayed in the game for a few pounds and have enjoyed many years all over the world for little money and no huge annual bills.
You were right to ask this question I admire your frankness the decision is now yours.
PM me if you have any other questions happy to help.

            • We've just returned from our week at the Marriott resort near Disneyland Paris, and have decided to hang on to it for now having gone there with the intention of trying to sell (even though I reckon from searching around online that the resale price is way below what we paid at sign on in February this year!). We've currently got a week every other year, and I was wondering if there's a way of maximising what we've currently got?

              Any help/tips much appreciated.
            • From a financial point of view, best advice is to look at resale sites and see what existing owners are trying to sell them for...that's your safety net if you need to sell in the future.
We did the presentations in Phuket and Majorca....the Phuket one is phenomenal and oh so tempting...
Ultimately, we didn't want to splash out all that money on something we can probably hire for 2 weeks from an existing owner's rental site, as and when needed and not fixed to bronze, silver or gold weeks every year.
