Staywarm/Eon

A few months ago I posted on the Staywarm board re a friend who had an increase from £79 to £101 per month for a 2 bedroom flat with one person living there. She has got economy 7 2 large 1 small and a tiny one in her bathroom. She has been very afraid even to use her heating as a few years she ran into a problem in having to pay 2 supplier when she switched. Because of this she is scared to change just in case she has any further problems. I helped her to when she spoke to staywarm and I was also present and spoke to the Rep whilst she was here. The rep persuaded her to remain with Staywarm until her next birthday when she could go on to a better tariff which was related to her age. Since October she has continued to pay £101 per month and when she talked to the EON Rep (birthday 24th Feb) they tell her that there is no such tariffe. I am not privy to her age but I reckon that she may have been 80 years now. I have been on holiday and she called me today to see whether I could check out prices for her. She seems to have used a helpline and OVO Energy has been suggested. I know that she reads her meter every week and at one point she was reading it daily because of problems she has previously. She is so scared of large bills that despite paying £101 monthly she only puts her immersion heater on once every 2 weeks on the day that her cleaner comes. For the rest she has an electric shower and uses her kettle to boil water for dishes etc. She has 1 large and 1 small storage heaters in living room 1 medium in the hall and a tiny one in her bathroom. She has no heating in her 2 bedrooms but in her own bedroom if the weather is very cold she will use a small fan heater for a very short time to take the edge off the cold.
She has given me figures that OVO have quoted her but I can't find corresponding figures on their web site tariffes

She has told me they quoted standing charges of 23p per day and that this would cost £84 per year. The day units at 11.24 and night rate of 6.90.. The figures don't add up for me but they have told her she would save £215 per year changing from Staywarm to OVO. It is difficult for me to get my head around this as I too am elderly but much younger that she is and I do have the benefit of being able to use the Internet.

She no longer trusts EON as they have given her conflicting or wrong information and therefore she is now willing to go to a new provider. This was something she would not consider previously. I will need to sit down with her and look at her figures. In the meantime I would appreciate any advice anyone could offer her.

Many thanks #

Sue

Thanks again I am sorry to have posted twice. I thought the first post might become a bit lost. The people my friend has spoken have told her she only has a week to accept what they are offering. I have told her to forget about that. I only came back from holiday last night so will do the comparisons tomorrow. Thank you again
