Thinking of adopting a cat from Assisi Aninmal Sanctury.
Has anyone adopted a cat from here and how does it work?, is it just a matter of turning up choosing one to take home? -Is there a set charge / fee or 'Donation' to be paid.
We have had cats before and are responsible owners, but never one from Assisi.

I'm working there at the moment as a volenteer & I also got my Daisy cat from there a couple years ago.All the animals are spayed/neutered & vaccinated & insured for one month with the option to extend the insurance plan thru PetPlan iirc.
In some cases a home visit may be needed & the is an adoption donation of,I believe, £55 to cover the costs of medical treatment & vaccinations.Best bet to give the ASSISI a call around 11am tomorrow or pop along & see them in person.
The is a loverly B&W cat there,he's 2 years old, called Doyle, at the moment.
Good luck & thanks for offering a puss a forever home!
They have a website here;

I'll let the staff at work know about this thread tomorrow when I go in & they can clarify for you if You'd like.0 -
+1 for what Spike said ...
We adopted a cat from Assisi about 3 years ago, and it was a case of us choosing a cat, being asked a few questions (not an interview, but just to make sure we knew about cats - we had had two previously, but one had been knocked down), and then coming back the next week to collect him. From memory, they asked for a donation of £50 (basically to pay for the running of the place, food, vaccinations, etc. - inflation has obviously pushed this up to £55), and that was it.
I don't think they'd have refused us the cat if we hadn't paid. Given the work they do, we gladly gave them more than that - it was the first time I'd been to Assisi, and was really impressed by what all they do, and the amount of upkeep required to run an animal sanctuary.
I'd definitely recommend them - if/when we're looking for another cat, I'd happily go back to them.0 -

Spike can I ask something since you are working at Assisi.
A friend's cat died last year after a long happy life. He had cancer and she spent a lot of money on his treatment but the cancer returned.
She lives in BT16, Dundonald. Went to the Cats Protection even had a letter from her vet stating she was a responsible owner and did annual vet checks etc. But because of her postcode they downright refused to let her have a cat.
Will Assisi let her adopt or do they ban certain postcodes too?0 -
Anyone thinking of acquiring a pet should first try the likes of Assisi. All the pets I have owned have been strays or abandoned. They all turned out well. Would highly recommend.[STRIKE]Less is more.[/STRIKE] No less is Less.0

Aha, but a cat walks itself, washes itself and doesn't stink your house out!
My Mum has had two cats indirectly from Assisi, both real characters. I wouldn't hesitate to get a furry friend from Assisi!Norn Iron Club Member 3300 -

As long as she's a responsable owner, then the's no problem.Cats protection also turned me down after Orbit died as I was in a NIHE apartment, but the was no problem with the ASSISI.I'm 99.9% positive they don't ban certain postcodes but I'll ask tommorow & get back to you after I get home (around this time)
Forgot to say,the £55 also includes worming & flea treatments, dogs are £65 but that also includes microchipping.0 -
Warmhands - we have a dog as well! Our cat died last year (he was 15) and the house isn't the same. And I'd much rather have a cat on my knee that our 18 month old labrador.
Spike, thanks for your advice. We will be there on Saturday.0 -

Get yourself up there and adopt a dog, plenty there. We got three cats from there, yes that's about the price £55. Plenty of older cats there, maybe you could get one of them as they seem to be left behind as most people pick kittens.0 -
