Inchcape

My apologies if this isn't the perfect forum for this, but it's a bit of a mixture, as you will see.

Almost 4 years ago I bought a car from Inchcape Vauxhall in Newbury. That branch has now been taken over by another company. When all the PPI furore took off last year I checked my various bits of paperwork and discovered that Inchcape had charged me £349 for PPI on the finance, which was placed through Barclays Partner Finance. Of course I immediately claimed the PPI from them, only to be told, in no uncertain terms, that there was no PPI on the loan. Inchcape had evidently not passed the money on.

On further delving into the car paperwork I found that Inchcape had also charged me £599 for extended warranty of 24 months, yet the paperwork reveals only a one year warranty.

Finally, I also found that the £100 holding deposit I paid for the car was not subsequently applied to the final sum payable.

There is other evidence of dodginess too, which I won't go into here, but includes, for example, a Duty of Care document, in which the salesman had ticked a number of items, signed it, but does not have my signature on it.

I wrote a comprehensive letter to Inchcape head office, setting everything out thoroughly, and backed by numerous copies, etc. I sent them this substantial letter on 3 January. Not having heard anything I sent a reminder letter about 4 weeks ago. Nothing.

I don't know how to proceed. Is this an Ombudsman matter? Clearly it goes further than PPI, and anyway, it's not PPI as what I paid in that name never happened.

I would be most grateful for any advice you chaps can offer. What recourse do I have if these people simply ignore my letters?

Many thanks in advance,

Alan.
