this will be my last post on this thread as there seems to be a lot more nastiness than advice, good luck

    I agree.

It never ceases to amaze me on this thread the amount of smug arrogant know alls who are presumably sitting comfortably looking down at the little people holding on by their finger tips about to suffer through their own ineptitude in not having an encyclopedic knowledge of the workings of every mortgage going.

Get real - the only mistake people have made is to trust the so called experts. Maybe the government is accountable for this mess as it clearly didn't regulate effectively the regulator of the banks who are now shelling out millions on PPI mis selling. Maybe those stupid ignorant customers should have known what contract they were signing up to aswell.

Its absolutely ridiculous to expect everyone to know everything about every subject they become involved in.

Having worked in a bank and as a regulated mortgage advisor albeit years ago i can tell you the only thing banks were interested in were the sales and commissions made not whether someone understands what they are signing up to. Some advisers didn't care a hoot about the customer getting into trouble or complaining as they worded the reports in such a way to cover their buns if it all went pear shaped.

Without this forum. What would people do then. Be even more uneducated financially?

A frightening thought as the basics of finance have never changed.

There's a huge difference between educating and sneering.

I agree some posters have tried to offer explanations and a couple have shown some empathy but some have offered nothing but contempt.

I think it was compounded for me by the fact that I read the thread in one go and it was quite amazing how awful some people are.

What ever people think of the mistakes of others in arranging their finances they may possibly lose their home and that is a terrible consequence for a mistake.

Besides these crowing people are probably older and have had the advantage of huge equity growths and employment stability gaining them the advantage not astute financial wherewithall.

There's also a huge difference between stating the cold hard facts and sneering.

Sometimes with financial issues playing the fluffy bunny and offering sympathy is of absolutely no help whatsoever. Understanding facts and dealing with them is more appropriate.

That is a remarkably sweeping generalisation.

Mate, it's nobodies fault but your own.

Winging that the SVR has gone up when the base rate hasn't is a straw man. What if the base rate had gone up - where's does your flaccid argument go then?

You are responsible for the contracts you enter into. Not me - not the expert - not anyone else. YOU.

I can only imagine you are busy blaming everyone else because you can't face the horrifying thought that you have deep down that the responsibility or "blame" actually lies with you.

How is this not sneering ?

Cold hard facts can be highlighted without nastiness.

Best to take some posts with a pinch of salt, get the information/advice you want out of the threads, lots of good advice on here.

4.49% is a good rate for a SVR in all fairness. only a few years ago the SVR was a default mode if you couldn't get a good deal, you'd go onto the SVR and pay more. the SVR is variable and doesn't track the BOE base rate.

i know i said i wouldn't post again but here goes, nobody on here wants people playing violins and saying what a shame. i think just straightfoward advice would be greatly appreciated by worried people. most are just everyday people without degrees in finance so without dumbing down too much so we can understand, especially for the ones that are new, like me to mortgages and such like. i think ' sneering' and 'nastiness' are quite accurate descriptions for some posts like they're getting a kick out of others problems, now that is a shame

Written word is open to interpretation. Particularly in email forum form.

Its not possible to explain everything in the minutest detail. Stick to the key points and inform factually.

Personally I am more than happy to engage in extended polite conversation. If it gives somebody a better understanding of a subject. As hopefully they will relay a little to someone else at some point in the future.

Age does give experience. That's a fact of life. Personally I have a wardrobe full of teeshirts that I've accumulated. Knowledge is wealth. Though I'm happy to share for free. Doesn't bother me if people consider me to judgemental as the majority of the time its not a personal opinion. Merely the view I would take if the transaction was a business one.
