No Claim Proof Nightmare!

After years of just ticking the box as to how many years of no claims i had and that was it i have now had to start paying more for my insurance than i have done previously because i no longer have the previous insurance documents for each year i have had insurance and as i shop around each year i cannot remember who i have been with or when! I have never been asked to provide all this information before so have never kept the previous documents, has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know of any other way that you can prove you have never made a claim on motor insurance:confused:

  • The norm is that you furnish your new insurer with proof of NCB each time you change company - that way you do not need to keep records of previous policies. I am surprised that you have been able to claim your NCB discount previously without showing proof to your new insurer - as that way anyone could merely state that have bonus when they don't and claim some hefty unearned discounts to which they are not entitled. If you previously transacted your business via an intermediary, they should have records of your previous insurers, if you have arranged your insurance yourself say via the web and have not kept records you are in some difficulty. If you were the insurer would YOU want to give say a 65% discount of your premium to a customer without evidence of NCB ??

Thanks, i understand completely what you are saying its just i thought maybe there is some other way you can prove you have made no claims, also i have found that where myself and my partner swap around as the main driver each year even though i had previous no claims details for the two of us for the past five years the insurance company would only take one or the other as one was in my name and one in his even though we were both on both documents, it seems ridiculous and just a way for the insurance companies to get more money.
  • I find having to provide written evidence of NCB from ones previous insurer a rather dated excercise in this day and age.

Cooperation does exist between insurance companies, so why do they not exchange NCB entitlement details as well? Having to ask a company, who has just lost your business, to do this I feel is something that is probably on the bottom of their priority list.

I am still awaiting my NCB entitlement letter by the way ;)

not to mention bad for the enviroment!.. X insurance company prints NCB proof, post half way across the country, I copy the document as its likely to get lost in a) post b) new insurance companys in-tray, then posted again back up the country to new insrance company. :T
