It's interesting that people have more than one bank account on the go, I hadn't thought about it, until the recent rash of incentive-driven current accounts.
I'm waiting for my £200 Co-Op incentive to arrive, then I'm closing that in favour of a First Direct account, for which I should be getting a £125 incentive.

I'll probably keep the FD account as my main account, but have the qualifying DDs made from a Santander 123 account, as well as satisfying the T&Cs on the Halifax Reward account.
    C'mon you Canaries!!
  • Current accounts - two.
    Smile and LloydsTSB.
I only have the LTSB account because of their Vantage account, then offering 4%, I had three.
Now just the one at 3%. I could get a bit more interest elsewhere with a savings account but it's handy to have as a spending/ready cash account with debit card and faster payments in and out.

    Hi All,

I'm really just pondering if I should close some accounts, or if there are any benefits to keeping them open. How many do you have?

    Here are mine:
Santander Current Account - use it for moving money around as it's set up. If close, need to spend 5mins inputting bank details for payments via another account. Don't use the debit card
Santander Joint Current Account - use this regularly for household/joint spends. Might look at interest paying account as this is good for being overdrawn (which we never are) but pays little interest
First Direct Current Account - Just opened this for the £125 incentive. This is the account my wage is paid into and my personal spends go out of (switched from the Natwest one)
Natwest Current Account - this was my main personal account, but not in use since switched to FD

Santander Monthly Saver - pay in a meagre £20 per month. But only really because it's set up, it never stays in for long as I transfer over to ISA
Northern Rock ISA - pay in, but nowhere near the limit! Got this on MSE recommendation last year (this tax year)

Santander Zero Credit Card - I've reduced the limit from £6k to £2k. This is only used for overseas spending since the 0% on purchases has ended. Now I have another, I may reduce again to £1k)
Tesco Credit Card - just opened this for 15months 0% think it's £1,500 limit

Is it bad to have so many accounts/access to so much credit?
If I keep them open, I might be elegible for "current customer only" deals - but are their any other benefits?

    Thanks all

    I have

    Lloyds
    HSBC
Metro Bank ( I don't use this, though I should!)
    Norwich and Peterborough
    Nationwide Flex account

    Lloyds Student credit card
    Luma credit card

    I have:-

    LTSB Classic Account
    Co-Op Current Account
Halifax Current Account (only very recently opened)

I made a mistake with Halifax and should have applied for the Reward Account but I hope to arrange that when my Salary/Direct Debits have been set up. At the moment they are only offering me an online upgrade to the Ultimate Reward Account, which is of no interest to me.

    5 current accounts

4 FD 1st accounts (1 main accounts, 1 for bills/DDs which will be used less over the next year as I've transferred these to a nationwide flexdirect account for the interest, 1 for travel costs, 1 for food)

1 nationwide flexdirect which is being used for bills/DDs for the 5% interest.

1 Amex platinum cashback credit card I've had for nearly 7 years/
1 AA MBNA credit card used for the balance offer.
1 MBNA rate for life card
    1 Coop clear visa
    1 Coop plat visa
    1 First Direct gold card
Interests: PCs. servers, networks, mobiles and music (esp. trance)

    Four current accounts:

Halifax Reward...this is my main account, opened for the £100 switch incentive and the fivers.

Santander Everyday current account...opened as a 'dummy account' which has 2 direct debits attached to it and can be utilised as a switching account for any incentives. Also opened for the cashback.

First Direct One account...opened for the £125 incentive and to gain access to the regular saver.

Nationwide Flexdirect...opened for the 5% interest.

Have 2 credit cards Halifax and Santander, which are used to buy petrol and are paid off in full every month.

Also have multiple savings accounts which act as pots for household expenses and one ISA with the Coventry for this year.
Pay off all your debts by Christmas 2025 no. 15 £0/6949

Halifax Reward Current Account (Main account, used to receive my salary and pay bills) £5/month reward

first direct 1st Account (specifically for access to fd's regular saver products - current issue is 2012/13 @ 8%)

2xNationwide FlexDirect accounts (paying 5% interest on £2.5k each)

Lloyds TSB Classic Vantage (paying 3% interest)

Norwich & Peterborough Gold Current Account (for access to the N&P Gold Regular Saver @ 5% and to fund the E-Regular and E-Family savers at 4% and 5% respectively)

    So I make that 6.

Minimal income as a pensioner so only two current accounts
    Halifax, and
Santander 1-2-3. Just closed an IF account and replaced with this as it's about the only one I can see that will be beneficial in my circumstances.
How on earth do people manage (and fund!) so many accounts? I get confused with my two little ones!
