BT MBNA Credit Card- Wont Replace Card?

I have a credit Card through BT, which is an MBNA card, I haven't used the card in while so it has just been sitting there as an empty £3k card. In January I wanted to use the card, and realised mine had expired and that they had sent my card to my previous address. So I called them up and they said they would send me my replacement to my new address.

2 weeks later I hadn't received anything, so I called again and they said before sending my a card they now would review my account before sending me a replacement card and said they would call back within 5 days.

In February I hadn't heard from them so called again they repeated that they needed to review my card and would call back in 5 days.

I still had not heard from them so called them on Monday, they said they were unable to review accounts or send replacement cards because MBNA is in administration.

So I now have an account sitting there with £3k available- I believe this will adversely affect my credit report because it has a credit available to me that I actually can't use.

Am I right in thinking my only option is to close my account?

They recently sent me an offer on 0% balance transfers, but say that it can't be used either. I feel a bit stuck should they not have wrote to their customers to tell them that if you need a replacement card you can't have one?

Do I accept this and close the account or should I try to speak to someone else? I am not happy they didn't tell me this in January, feel like they have been fobbing me off!

Thanks

QD

Close the account. If they're not of a mind to issue you a card, then there's no point keeping the account. Make a note of any CPAs first though and advise the merchants of new card details.

MBNA customer service is shockingly bad in my experience, I tend to avoid any MBNA cards. There is enough on the market to get better value credit cards. Bin off MBNA and take your custom somewhere that has some customer service.

If anything they seem to now have attitude. I think because they may be losing their jobs.
