JSA - Free eye test?

Sorry, this might be the completely wrong board to post this on.

I was just looking for the cheapest place to get an eye test when I stumbled upon some info saying I can actually get it for free as I am currently on JSA.

Is this correct? What kind of proof do I need to bring? Just the original acceptance letter?? Do I need to tell them before I book the test? (I usually go to Boots, although I haven't been for one in years)

Thanks

If you are on income-based JSA you can take your letter with you (does not apply for contribution based JSA)

I had an overdue letter from my opticians saying to book my yearly eye test. On the list, it had JSA - IB. You get a voucher that will pay full or part of your glasses expense (if you need it). As for proof, take your award letter and your current signing book. One or the other should suffice. Show this before you do the test just so they're aware although I'm sure they'll ask you about this before the test.

If you're on JSA-C then I suspect you are not able to claim a free eye test that way. Perhaps through the NHS and under one of their scheme. They used to have a low-income scheme running, used it when I was in uni but I don't know if that still exists.

You might have an issue using your voucher at an online supplier - most aren't able to accept them

You also get help towards the cost of your glasses as well as the free eye test. I paid about £10 for mine at specsavers. You can get some glasses free, but whether you like the style or not is another matter!!
