Would you fill the survey in.

I got home yesterday and there was a survey from a housing association and i was wondering if you would fill the survey in as some questions got nothing to do with the local community.

This is what was in the covering letter.

A member of your community team called at your house today to ask you about the local community. We want to find out what you think is good about your community and if you think there are priorities for improvement. The team will be working closely with your community over the next few months to develop plans for its future and we are starting this by asking people to answer the questions in the area.

The questions that i don't think are about the community.

Do you have the use of a vehicle.
Do you have a compter in your home with an internet connection.
Do you use facebook or twitter on your mobile phone.
Do you have insurance for the contents of your home.
Do you speak welsh.
Does anybody in your household receive help/support with daily living or household tasks?
If yes, what help/support are they currently receiving and from what agencies.
How many people live at this property and which of the following age bands do the fall into.
On the scale below where would you rate your highest qualifications.
Hnd, degree and higher degree level qualifications or equivalent (nvq 4 and above)
2 or more a levels, advanced gnvq, nvq 3, 2 or more higher or advanced higher national qualifications (scotland) or equivalent (nvq3)
5 or more gcse at grades a-c, intermediate gnvq, nvq2, intermediate 2 national qualification (scotland) or equivalent (nvq2)
Fewer than 5 gcse at grades a-c, foundation gnvq, nvq1, intermediate 1 national qualification (scotland) or equivalent (nvq1)
Other qualification (eg includes foreign qualifications and some professional qualifications)
No qualifications.
Do anyone in your household have any disabilities or illnesses? If so what are these.
What is the employment status of everyone in your household who is over 16.
Are you receiving pension credit (if over 60)
Do any of the children in your house receive free school lunches.
We would like to be able compare the average incomes of people in this area with other areas and target advice about benefits. Would you mind giving us rough indication of the ammount of the total money on average that you have coming into your home each week? Under £421 £421 or more.

You are under no obligation and if you do not wish to cooperate then do not fill it in.

Actually, all those questions look as if they could be relevant to one or more community projects.

When prioritising budgets those responsible need to look at the needs of the target group, their income, and what facilities they have available.

The only questions I find a little odd are those about qualifications - although they may be used as an indicator of the likelihood of staying in employment or finding employment in the future, and the probable earnings range if such employment is found.

If the survey is anonymous there is no reason why you should not fill it in although, of course, it's entirely up to you. If it is not anonymous then, again, that is your decision but you may have more reason to refuse if you are concerned about your privacy.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

Do you have the use of a vehicle. Relevant to the provision of parking in housing association houses, and transport development
Do you have a compter in your home with an internet connection. Relevant to providing services eg rent payment and arranging repairs online
Do you use facebook or twitter on your mobile phone.Maybe relevant
Do you have insurance for the contents of your home.Relevant as tenants without insurance may find it hard to sustain a tenancy after loss of home contents, and the association might offer a policy
Do you speak welsh. Relevant if the association has to develop a Welsh language policy or provide Welsh-speaking staff
Does anybody in your household receive help/support with daily living or household tasks? Possibly relevant in determining whether there is a demand for adapted accommodation
If yes, what help/support are they currently receiving and from what agencies. Getting intrusive here
How many people live at th is property and which of the following age bands do the fall into. They should have info on their tenants already. Age demographics is standard part of local demographic datasets
On the scale below where would you rate your highest qualifications. Possibly relevant for economic information, not particularly relevant for a housing association, and statistical information is available from local council or census databases
Do anyone in your household have any disabilities or illnesses? If so what are these. Relevant as this can affect benefit entitlements Intrusive if details of conditions are required and this is sensitive information which must be carefully collected and processed
What is the employment status of everyone in your household who is over 16. Employment status information available from local council, census and DWP regional statistics, they should not need this to household level
Are you receiving pension credit (if over 60) Intrusive
Do any of the children in your house receive free school lunches. Available on an anonymous basis from local schools or council. they should not need this to household level
We would like to be able compare the average incomes of people in this area with other areas and target advice about benefits. Would you mind giving us rough indication of the ammount of the total money on average that you have coming into your home each week? Under £421 £421 or more. Available from census, local council, office of national statistics etc. They should not need this information to household level

This is typical of a questionnaire designed by a well-meaning but clueless organisation who
    (a) do not understand that holding excessive information is contrary to the principles of Data Protection
    (b) do not understand that most of the information they require is available, to greater accuracy and on an anonymous basis, from existing government datasets held by local councils, DWP and ONS etc.
    (c) do not need the majority of information to household level, what they would be better getting is year-by-year comparative information from govt datasets which they can get trends from
