Diesel DPF help
Comments

On paper I am probably the last person who should have a diesel. Average journey most the time of 2-4 miles. Returns 18 mpg.
Bought the car at 18 months old 2.5 years ago and with a 10 mile run down the motorway once a week and a 200 mile trip every 1-2 month's the dpf has been fine so far.
So I wouldn't really worry about the next six months for you.0 -

Mercs are well built
VW's are the most reliable
Diesel's are the cheapest to run
All false statements when considering long term or 2nd hand ownership. But they are pieces of social gossip, which will take a VERY long time to kill
DPF has got money written all over it for the manufactures .
If less people were to buy these faulty goods that would send a powerfull message to them.0 -
Whilst I can understand your comment, I am only worried about the next 5/6 months. After that I will be doing the mileage required in to both Holland and Germany so lots of motorways for which the car was built. I only brought the purchase forward due to my car starting to open its mouth and swallow money despite it being the "perfect example" on paper when I bought it 2 years ago (one private owners every service at VX main dealer ect.) the latest being the stability & traction control system which even VX are stumped with and quoting anywhere between £200 & £1,800 to fix not to mention a leak in to the car via the bulkhead which is not related to the normal leaf blockage.people's ignorance always has been and always will a great money spinner
As for Ignorance - I agree I don’t know that much about the internal workings of cars hence my question - there is a lot of conflicting opinions on the internet.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -

We didn't buy our diesel for economic reasons - the diesel engines had better reviews than the petrol engines for the Mondeo. We couldn't even find a petrol engined Mondeo in our vicinity to test drive.0 -

With cars like that (large), the private buyer would buy diesel, so you won't see many petrol cars about until the fleet owners start getting shot of them.... These days they keep them for 5 years or more, when years ago (before the recession) it was 2 years.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

These threads have me in stitches.
Need a Diesel car for the economy, but don't worry, the fuel it's going to burn belting up the motorway to go nowhere doesn't count towards running costs, and don't for goodness sake mention emissions, driving to nowhere every other week to clean the anti emission fitment has to be the most ludicrous thing i've heard....and people still can't see it.
Whilst people continue to buy second rate vehicles made by companies who despise their customers, nothing will change.
How do companies who use their customers as cash machines manage to attain must have status for their products, it can only be adverts on the idiot box in the corner of the room.
If they make vehicles that can't cope with a bit of work don't buy the junk, its not rocket science.0
