Bank payment sent to wrong account - what next?

Hi,
I made a bank payment to someone, but it hadn't reached their account. On checking the details, it seems that I've had a stupid moment and put the wrong bank account number (2 digits round the wrong way). I'm on hold to my bank at the moment, but wondered if anyone on here knew if I can get that money back at all and how to go about it.
I would nip into my local branch, but my youngest is covered in Chicken Pox and I can't take her out like it.
Thanks,
HM.

Normally a simple transposition of digits would result in an invalid account number. The money should then "bounce" back to your account in a few days as the transaction cannot complete to an invalid account.0

Thank you for that. I did hope it would be something like that, but having had an ill, non-sleeping, scratching herself red raw, chicken pox covered toddler means that my brain is currently fried.

Try and use the following:
http://www.postcodeanywhere.co.uk/demos/bankvalidator.aspx
Tells you if the details you input are for a valid bank account number & sort code.David
