My local Tescos told me that they used to accept other manufacturers' coupons, but that they didn't anymore. I was told this by a customer services person. I was also told that they do not accept coupons unless you buy the item.

I tried at the checkout anyway. The operator wouldn't accept a Sainsbury's coupon, but did accept plenty of non-supermarket-specific coupons for items I hadn't bought. I haven't been back yet, but it is begining to look like pot luck, depending on who you get.

Does this experience sound familiar to anyone else, and do we know what their official policy is on coupons? Also whether it is a company-wide policy or just down to the whim of the individual local managers?

My local Asda have been accepting other retailers' coupons until recently, but they've tightened up, and now you have to buy the product. Unfortunately they won't accept printed-out coupons, so it has to be Tescos for this one, and I'm hoping my local store won't get its knickers in a twist about printed out coupons.

  • Told the checkout girl I had quite a few vouchers to put through. She told me that they could accept other supermarket vouchers.

I put through 20 vouchers including 2 Whisky vouchers. No problem at all.

Took the bill down from £83 to £70.

Tip. Always tell them that you have vouchers/coupons to put through at the beginning.
  • I really think it depends on who you get. I find it best at weekends when there are lots of students working!! They are less likely to have had the voucher policy drummed into them and far less likely to care (in my experience anyway!!)
