...does anyone actually have experience of trying to claim on PPI and THEN being told that it didn't apply to them? If so, what happened next?
Also, I have read so many messages on this forum where people basically claim they were talked into (or worse terms) taking out PPI. Maybe I am missing the point, but whenever I have done business with someone or some company who was about to make money out of me, I have never trusted a single word of the person who I was dealing with. 50% of the reason is because I don't believe they really know themseleves what they are selling and 50% is because I know damn well that even if they weren't on a financial incentive to 'sell' me something, they'll certainly have been working to a target.
To that end, I have always done my own research, whether it was buying a car or changing energy supplier. I am not, repeat NOT bragging about this, I am simply saying that having gone to great lengths to be sure of what I was doing and never rushing into anything either, it never occured to me that all over the country people were being 'forced', 'bullied', and 'pressurised' to signing on the dotted line.
I've had debts, and I'm not ashamed of it. Thank god I've been lucky enough to find enough work to do to pay them off. Not withstanding my mortgage, I've had no other debts since December of last year. First time in the best part of 20 years. But my, what a journey it has been.

I'm helping a friend with their credit card PPI from a few years ago. Sold to them face to face while they were self employed and working less than 16 hours a week, no policy details ever supplied. When they tried to claim due to subsequent unemployment they were told they couldn't. Despite this it took another 18 months before the bank finally agreed to cancel the policy.0

Hi. How did they 'prove' unemployment if they were self-employed? Did their business go under or something? Did they get a refund of the premiums?0

They couldn't prove it. The work had dried up, no business to cease trading, savings meant no JSA so living of these while looking for new business plus they'd been working less than 16 hours before hand anyway. No refund of premiums when finally cancelled, complaint just gone in.0

The normal self employment criteria for unemployment is to cease paying class 2 NI and sign on.
Where many make the mistake is that they think a period of quiet work whilst still trading is classed as unemployment but its not.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
