HPI check on a car.. What does this mean?!

Hey everyone

I have just gone to see a second hand car and just done a HPI check and it has basically confused me!

It says it is linked to another reg which was personalised, and that reg is linked to another car with finance.. So does that affect me?

It also says it was wrote off, but then further down the page it says it has not been recorded with insurers as a total write off.. And not recorded as a repaired write off? So does this mean it has been wrote off b4 but not recorded thru the insurance?

I have got pics but can't attach em, cos on me fone.

HPI = Hire Purchase Info (or Index), i think..

its been quite a while, since i did these, at a car finance firm (a nice one!)-
central database that insurers, dealers, finance and police can check status of any car reg..

will flag up any reported finance still outstanding, lost/stolen, etc.. also useful for loan co's, as get notified if people try to sell on without paying their loan first!

these reports get confusing when plates get swapped around and hpi cannot cope
of course you might be buying something wrong but then again the real crooks wouldnt leave a paper trail
its quite possible the plate on a past car is leaving the damaged recorded trail
best thing is talk to hpi direct in the morning because unless its changed for private people you are indemnified against certain things anyway
im assuming you arent buying from a laybye of course
