Remortgaging if history of claiming JSA

I have been looking for a new job for several weeks but not having much luck so I'm thinking of claiming Job Seekers Allowance (I don't want to but needs must). The endowment policy that I took out to cover the interest only part of my mortgage matures in November but like most peoples wont be enough to cover the amount due. I will therefore need to increase the repayment part of my mortgage to cover the shortfall. I hope to be back in employment before I need to do this in which case the JSA claims will be history (fingers crossed).

Question: If I decide to claim Job Seekers Allowance, does anyone know if the mortgage company:
a) can check if I am or have ever claimed JSA
b) would look unfavourably on this and refuse to increase my repayment mortgage?

Any advice would be really appreciated.
