Is this wallpaper safe to remove?

Hi all,
Am needing to peel wallpaper off a 1960s house wall, it's got this nasty textured wallpaper that I'm wanting to replace with nice smooth walls.
Can anyone tell me if it's safe to remove as normal wallpaper (ie steam and scrape). Have heard that you need to be careful with textured artex ceilings, however not sure if asbestos etc was used in textured wallpaper too?
Many thanks in advance!

Orford do not answer questions you know nothing about, if your wallpaper is pre 1980 and is vinyl then it could contain asbestos,so treat it with respect, I cant advise you how to remove it but maybe somebody else can or do some research, but dont panic it would be a very small amount of white not blue or brown.0

the walls underneath paper on a house of that age will probably need lining or reskim with plaster before painting .0

A builder told us that if you use a steamer to remove wallpaper you can end up with 'boast plaster' where the skim coat pulls away from the scratch coat. I guess it all depends on the quality of the plaster underneath.
I used a steamer and scraper to remover paper from a bedroom. It was messy, sticky and the whole room (including me) felt damp and disgusting, even with the windows open.
I used warm water in a hand sprayer and scraper for our hall, stairs and landing and it was just as easy, much much less messy and I wasn't left feeling like I'd been in a wallpaper paste filled sauna for a week!Norn Iron Club Member 330
