Not the closest, but if you are stuck there is one next to Redbridge station (z4 and 20 minutes from Liverpool St on the Central Line).

One option is the Premier Inn at Stratford Internatonal station (olympic games/westfield shopping centre site). 7 minutes on HS1 train non-stop to St.Pancras for £6.

On a similar note, I am hoping to take my daughter to London is October, to spend a couplt of days doing general sightseeing and shows, and then a day at the new Harry Potter Studios. Can anyone recommend somehwere that would be convenient for both of these purposes?

For the studios, you can get the fast train from Euston to Watford Junction (takes about 15-20 minutes, there is a slow train that takes much longer so avoid this) and then a bus or cab to the Studios. There is a Travelodge at Euston and also an Ibis.

The British Museum is walking distance from Euston. About 10 minutes of a tube journey from there direct to Waterloo for the London Eye, Houses of Parliamant, Thames Embankment, Boat traips to the Tower etc. 15 minute tube journey from Euston to South Kensington for Natural History, Science and V&A Museums. 10 minute tube journey to Covent Garden (involving one change). 20 minutes walk from Euston or about 5 mins on tube (2 stops) to Camden Town for the markets on Sunday.

If hotels in London are expensive for your dates you might also want to look at the Holiday Inn Express which includes breakfast, at Watford Junction (beside the train station) or Jurys Inn which is a 10 minute walk to the Watford Junction Train station. You will pay more for a daily Travelcard for use on all buses, trains and tubes in London transport zones to watford Jct, so factor in fares. £15.20 for an adult off peak TC all zones and Watford Jct acompared to £7 for Euston and 1&2 zones. Of course one of those days you will only pay either a coach fare (£2 return it says on studio website and it runs until 9.35pm) if staying at Watford Junction or coach and a return train fare if staying at Euston. Children aged 10 and under travel free To Watford Junction and on London Transport. 15-17 year olds buy a TC £3.20 off peak Euston zones 1 and 2 and £7.60 Euston to watford jct zones (It would probably be cheaper to get a childs fare from watford Jct to Harrow Weald where train stops (which is in zone6) and a zone1-6 TC at £3.20 at the start of your journey.

If looking at the Holiday Inn try the link below for 3for 2 nights or 2 for 1 just choose which in box on right hand side.

I could advise Newbury Park Holiday Innn Express, not far from tube and has great free car parking.

I would not advise Stratford, walking around there doesnt feel great, the Holiday Inn Express is probs safest bet.

Travelodge at London Bridge/Tower Bridge we like, as close to tube and always feels safe.

Type in 2 for 1 ichotels into google to get great Holiday inn deals.
  • I stayed at Travelodge Covent Garden last weekend and it was perfect (though ask for a room away from the lift as we found it noisy with people going in/out.)

It was £60/£70 per night and we stayed Fri/Sat.

We got the tube from Euston to Covent Garden and then it's a 5min walk. We then walked everywhere and didn't get the tube again until we were going home! Went to The Tate, British Museum, walk along the Thames etc. We watched Woman in Black which was around the corner, and on Sat night went to a club which was also 5 mins away!
