Where the customer removes the switched load many sscs will support a switch to pc1 and the supplier has to update the DC and mpas.
You missed the main point if a meter system has switched load CAPABILITY NOT CAPACITY it must be set to PC2 (switched load). So unless the meter is exchanged it has to remain of PC2. So even with heating removed if the meter is still wired for it it must remain on PC2. You can have multi-rate PC1 metering system but that can't have switched load capability.

But there are many E7 meters held in mdd that are allowed to operate in switched or non switched capacity in terms of PC and the switched load indicator. Where the PC is 1, the op switched load indicator is automatically set the false o allow this. This is where the supplier is expected to switch to pc1.

If the PC in only 2, it cannot operate as false hence the supplier shoukd change the meter rather than internally fiddle data to save on visits. The customers pay he price since they can switch to a supplier operating the mdd correctly and they wont offer them 1 rate charge. So, they then have to get the metet replaced and pay for what the previous supplier didn't want to.

Some the BSC old statement doesn't match up to the data elexon manage for there industry.

  • Hi there! Just by chance noticed BG have amended my bill ,and never called like they promised . Turns out it was very little difference!! they told me to stay away from forums as they can be misleading( the cheek!)she said tonight no need to change my meter and the new standard rate is going to save me around £40 per year.So i asked no chance of any money back , and she said what with the price changes and VAT it works out roughly the same ?... Ive asked for the massive paper bill to be sent as all the others on line have gone now as Im on the standard rate.

Yeah, they wish...the types of queries often on this board are simple to someone who understands elec or gas but many supply staff get it wrong o this forum is very useful...there are clearly business experts on here based on the advice and those who know their rights...so what are they afraid of?

If they don't plan on changing that meter, just be ware that if tt meter is e7 only in the industry, their internal switch just means a new supplier may revert you back to e7. It might just mean so arguing with the new supplier to change the meter and correct your bills from the switchover date...it happens but at least you will be prepared for it.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but seemed relevant and better than starting a fresh.
Bgas phoned to say they need to change my elec meter as it has expired (17 years old). I've never heard of this before and have come across many meters much older than this. Getting onto the relevance, I'm on economy 7 with no NSH ever having been fitted. I make use of lower rate with timers on dishwasher, washing machine and emersion heater.
Do Bgas just want to take away e7 ??
  • Hi Gee Wiz, they will be proberbly fitting an eco 7 digital meter to replace your old mechanical meter. It will have an accurate digital clock to time your cheap rate. your old mechanical meter will proberbly have had its timer well out, they nearly all are.you will carry on with an eco 7 meter unless you intervene and ask for a single rate meter which will proberbly be a bit cheaper unless you are very diligent with your night useage

Sacsquacco - we also have an old E7 meter. If we switch to another co are they likely to want to replace it? We are quite happy with our old meter...

Meters are regularly changed, millions ever year (my gas meter is being changed this week), 15 years old.
It's not your supplier who owns the meter, it's the regional supplier (DNO). So changing your supplier does not mean a meter change.

It is not just the incumbent Distribution Network Operator (DNO) (nothing to do with supplier) that owns the meter, ownership of the meter sits with the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) who may or may not be a DNO and there are millions owned by independent MAPs.
