registering a pup with the kennel club

Not necessarily. Most reputable breeders will endorse a pup's papers with "Progeny not eligible for registration". That means they do not give permission for you to breed and register subsequent puppies. It signals the original breeder's intention to protect their name/bloodlines and SHOULD discourage buyers from using the pups for indiscriminate breeding. Many do lift the exemption if you prove the pup has passed all relevent health tests in adulthood and sometimes also that the dog has been shown successfully. You are paying the extra for the bloodline which the breeder feels is valuable. You will then be able to breed the dog an will have all thpapers related to that bloodline which will in turn make the dog more valuable.
If you see puppies advertised as "Both parents KC reg... but pups not registered" it would immediately flag up (to me) that one or both parents may have endorsed registrations. Which in turn, means they may not be health tested!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
