What sort of service should I get?
Just bought a new used car, a Hyundai Getz 2004. Really happy with it! But missing my trusty old Nova already of course:p
I purchased it from an older couple, the gentleman has had his driving license taken away after having a stroke.
The car was last serviced in late March 2011, so it is nearly due a service now. However, it has only done 1,000 miles since then! It has been sitting in a garage in between journeys.
Therefore, would a small service be enough, or is it still best to get a full service?

Most services are due on mileage or age. Mine is 12.5K or 1 year, every 3rd service is a major so could be needed at 1yr with 36k on the clock or 3 years with 18k on the clock. What does the service history say is due ?

It would need an even more thorough service than usual if it has been sitting in a garage for a year. Cars need to be used. Get it checked over by someone who knows what to look out for.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

The service book says every 12 months or 10,000 miles.

Find your local, friendly independent, tell him you've just bought it, want a bumper to bumper check over and an annual service. Most of the service will be looking and checking anyway, but set up a call back to speak to you if he finds anything amiss. (Doubt if there will be).0

My local independent in SE London charges about £160 for a full service on a small car, but it varies depending on where you are.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
