water seepage...what to do

What kind of job it is?
should I treat it as window seepage or outside wall problem?
is it 'wall pointing job' or I should do quick fix 'cement' or 'water proof plastering'?
Please any advice would be very appreciated!
the problem, water little by little coming into the up stair bedroom.
Due to bad weather, I could only do window seal around the top side of the window.
Now it is getting algae inside and outside,
I need to know what kind it is, window or wall problem in order to tackle the problem.
I have little money to spare and I figure out I have to first must to buy a tall ladder (expensive) and budget what to buy next in order to fix this.

thanks, would search about such things.
From where I could observe, the gutters seems just ok, would do more research about 'roof felt'
please if you may, do tell me more about such things...very appreciated in advance.
would order a tall ladder later (had to wait for salary pay first) and then gather all the tools and hopefully sufficient knowledge to get it done while the weather permitted.
Meanwhile any advice would be much appreciated.0 -
Hello, why not hire a ladder over a weekend? Plan in advance, book a ladder 3 piece, from a local hire centre, who will deliver and pick up. You need to inspect outside to see where problem lies. If room is top floor ,check attic, roof space to see if you can see daylight or any sign of leak inside above window. If a flat roof, then once you have ladder ,you can do an inspection.
It sounds like strong winds could be adding to problem. But one step at a time. Be careful on the ladder and get someone to foot it(stand at bottom).

many thanks for your great suggestion.
I have problem with hire center with all those credit things.
I have problem to access to the roof space too.
I so agree with the problem with the strong winds, the seepage starts after the gale wind last year.
and the wall is always in shade/winding area so make the situation worse.
May I ask, if it's not the window's problem, could I just use quick cement or doing some 'pointing' on the wall, then cover with layer of water proof liquid (assume it's nor the gutter and roof problem)?
sorry, very despair and don't know where to start...
Thanks in advance.0 -
First, I fully understand the hiring bit, as everyone is not into credit cards. Ask if they can take a cash deposit, seeing as they will be dropping off to your address anyway.
Secondly, yes you can fill in any gaps with sand and cement, you could use a water proof rapid hardening cement with the sand. If you use this, try a tester to see how much time you have, mixing with sand helps it a little longer. Any good builders merchant will point you in the right direction. Normally, this type of cement is sold in 2kg bags upwards. So there is no need to buy a large bag of cement that will go to waste.0 -

Thanks very much for all the suggestions and the details...at least I know I am going to do something 'right' and not making the whole situation worse.
I did try pay cash deposit but those hire shops won't let me do that, they need paper work this and that, so they don't bother with my suggestion at all...maybe I need to look further away to find any small self-employed hire shops, but I think they are very rare nowadays. All the high streets are half empty or just big corporation chain shops.
Since the weather is so unstable, I would just start to stock up those cement first and look out for the right ladder. And whenever the weather ok at weekend, I would try it all out.0 -
Don't buy anything until you have isolated the problem.
thanks for your kindly reminder.
This problem had made me like a walking zombie and lose my head.
you are absolutely right, I should be more careful with my hard earn money.
Luckily I would get some overtime work during the Easter so the money would sort out for the ladder.
My plan now is not shop around to see if I could hire a ladder, if not, buy one. Have a look up there, check the gutter and the roof. Hope for the best that I could do the work by cement it
At last, pray for the weather would be better during weekends so I have time to sort it out.
Once again, thanks for all the lovely words.0 -
Please could anyone give out more advice :
My house is a old cheap build ex-council terrace house, the brick walls feel very flimsy (no sound proof at all), is it the reason that water easily seeping in? very poor insulation and always feel draft all round the house.
Are there any way to prevent the water problems then happen again or at other area as this side of the house is always under shade and wind blowing hot spot?
And I am saving money hope one day could do a major home improvement, what kind of home improvement should I go for? Just a splash of wall painting or plastering seems not enough as the house is very cheap build.
Please any advice would do as I need to knowledge up what project is should be,
Thanks in advance.0 -
