Cheaper Home Phones

Hi to everyone. I have just joined the MSE and have already submitted a letter to the bank regarding my bank charges, checked my council tax banding (I am lower than I should be!!).
My question relates to stand alone home phones. Who are the cheapest and best providers. I have free broadband with my orange mobile, so just want a cheaper home phone than BT.

N.B. The advice is NOT to move your line rental away from BT.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
