We constantly get calls for someone else!

We have had our new phone number with our virgin package for a few months now but are constantly getting calls for another person at another address (guessing its their old number) but now its getting stupid. Most companies atc have stopped calling after we have told them they have the wrong number but an automated service for what Ive been told is Natwest collections dept calls numerous times throughout the day which is causing problems as my partner works nights so doesnt want the phone ringing all day! Is there someone I can contact to inform them they are calling the wrong number? Any help appreciated.

How about an answering machine set to answer after zero rings with the message, "This number used to be that of Mr. Fred Bloggs of 23 Any Street, Anytown but is now someone else's. If you are trying to contact Mr. Bloggs, please do not call this number again."
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Heinz - The autodialer will still call back.

How about calling VM explaining the problem and asking for the service to block withheld numbers being added to your account for free.
  • Speak to Virgin? Ask them to change your number?

Establish whether in fact it is NatWest collections. Warn them twice in writing. Proceed as harassment if that is not the end of it.

i had the same problem for a year, no amount of telling companies, tracking them down and telling them, abruptness, nothing helped. after the christmas break i'd had enough. I called virgin and asked what my options were. the girl i spoke to was great and changed my number free of charge. I know it's an inconvience to tell everybody but the constant phone calls were more annoying.

A friend of mine used to get calls from a debt collection company and they wouldn't take no for an answer so he started to say he was this person and that he would pay so much a week and to send him the details.

They asked for his address and he said just send them to the address you have on record for me can you just confirm the address?

Of course it was not his address but he said it was.

2 weeks later he got another call from them wondering why he hadn't replied.

He told them the letters must have gone astray and to post them again.
This went on for a few months he always said he hadn't received any letters and they kept asking him to confirm his address which he did.

Then the calls stopped. He was so disappointed.

All they had was a phone number, they did not have his name or address.

Sad what some people do when they retire.

we're with bt but we constantly get calls for someone who has never lived at this address as far as i know.
all i can think is that they reuse numbers like mobile companies do.
