A word FROM the wise please

I have just received a phone call from Walker Love Sheriff Officers (Scotland) Happily I let it go to answer phone. They have asked me to contact them, which I will not do.
Can someone please advise me what their next step is? I have had all 4 letters shown in Peppipoo and ignored them as instructed. Is this a new tact that the Sheriff Officers are involved and what should I expect next

Euro Car Parks? Are you absolutely certain that they weren't acting on behalf of a Council, not that I think they do?

Sheriff Officers are the Scottish equivalent of bailiffs as I understand it. And like bailiff companies in England (like Newlyn, see another thread) they sometimes decide to act as debt collectors instead of court officers to try and use their title to bully people, even though without a Court order they have no more power than you or I.

If you are certain that it is just a Euro Car Parks FAKE ticket (what was it for) and there hasn't been any genuine court process (very, very unlikely!) then continue to ignore, if you happen to answer the phone to them tell them you do not wish to speak to them as you owe nothing and hang up before they can reply.

Come back if there are any further developments.

Like English Bailiffs, Scottish Sherrif Officers can have both legit "court appointed" operations and scamming scare tactics on a purely commercial basis, usually using non-appointed staff or even secondary contractors. However they should not be confusing the two by using their legit status as leverage on a non-enforcable invoice.

So if you have no inkling of a successful case - and normally one would have generated a lot of correspondance to get to this point, I would tend to your continuing to ignore them. However, you could call their bluff and demand they send you proof of this debt in a form you can verify directly with the court concerned.

And yes, a quick google does reveal that Walker Love does appear to have a "debt collector" affilliate/subsidiary which trades on the company name/reputation, so it could well be them you are actually dealing with.

If you Google the Sheriff's Officers and include 'Euro Car Parks private PCN' and add the word 'pepipoo' or 'moneysavingexpert' then you get quite a few forum results from people who have had your letter chain and ignored it.

Give them FA - yes it was a Euro Car Park invoice for parking in a bay that had no signs displayed and the website of the shopping centre was still displaying free parking (I have a screen shot of this) so it was a private company.
Pogofish - I have not received any court papers or any other indication that this had gone any further. The parking incident was over a year and a half ago! As I said, i received all the letters I expected as explained by Pepipoo but this caught me by surprise.
So, THANK YOU EVERYONE, if i do not recognise the phone number, I will let it go to answer-phone and let them get on with it.
