Virgin e-ticket without payment card Urgent please

I booked a Virgin e-ticket while I was at home and forgot to bring the payment card with me. I'm now stuck with the option of travelling by coach with a 3 year old or trying my luck without the payment card. I have plenty of ID and have the payment info in my email etc, but have been told the station staff 'would not allow me to travel' without the payment card. The person I spoke to at VT said that Virgin themselves won't have a problem if i don't have the card with me, but in my experience, I have seen others get quite a lot of hassle and even fined the full cost of the ticket for travelling without. It was a genuine error and I can't afford to buy another ticket at full cost now.

Annoyingly, if i had bought a ticket using the Fast ticket machine the card would not have been needed!

Is there anything I can do? Has anyone travelled without the payment card without problems?

Sorry to say that there is little you can do.

It is a condition with etickets that the payment card is carried with the ticket.

As you may know, it is possible to produce more that one copy of an eticket.

If you present one eticket without the payment card used, how is anyone to know that there isn't someone else travelling with another copy of the eticket and the payment card?

Sorry, an eticket is invalid without the payment card and you should expect to have to buy a new ticket.

Of course, if you had bought the ticket from the fast ticket machine then the payment card would not be needed.
There is only one ticket produced in this case.
No possibility of two, or more, people travelling on one ticket.

I recently travelled on a Cross Country train from Manchester to Birmingham.
Another passenger near to me had an e-Ticket. The person checking the tickets on that service asked to see the payment card or any other form of Identification.

I believe the e-Ticket is only valid on the train you are travelling on (and stricktly speaking only for the reserved seat).

    Hope this helps.
