Working Tax Credits Query

Hi

I don't receive working tax credit at the moment but have just been offered a six month contract for a 20 hours per week job. There is potential for the six months to be extended but at the moment it's only confirmed for six months. Does anyone know whether I can claim WTC for six months or do I have to qualify for a whole year? I suspect the Tax Office will say I don't qualify but Im concerned that if the six month contract was extended and I qualified for WTC, that I will lose out financially as I understand it can only be backdated one month.

I'd be grateful for any advice if anyone has been in this situation before. Thanks!

Are you single an over 25? If so then you need to be working 30 hours per week to get WTC

In that case you can get WTC on 16 hours, so you can claim. It doesn't matter if it stops after 6 months, just make sure you tell them if it does stop though.

The PPs reply assumed you didn't have any kids.

You can still claim, when I did temping work I used to claim for the few months I was working and then just ring them up to let them know when the contract finished.
