I would hope so too. However working in a public service myself I know that people very rarely get dismissed. This sounds like it would definitely fall under the 'gross misconduct' heading though and good riddance to them I say with so many people desperate for work they have abused the right to be there.

Are you asking whether the whistle-blower would be suspended or the person taking the back handers?

The person taking the back handers, I think its very wrong my self as people are losing job`s, But the person is under investigations but still in his position which i would of thought was wrong, but i do know he has friends in high places !

You've worked in a different part to me then as I know several civil servants who were dismissed for far less serious matters.

In the department I worked in, I would not expect anyone who was guilty of taking backhanders to keep their job, especially in today's work climate.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

if you wanted something more to happen, informing the local paper usually helps.

My personal view is that where possible an investigation should be complete with the outcome confirmed before people are suspended (or worse dismissed).

I appreciate it's not always possible but I think people jump to action before confirming whether action needs to be taken.

if there is an investigation on-going and you have additional information for the investigation, you should contact the investigating officer in confidence and give your evidence. As a government employee if you know of any illegal practices it is your duty to report these, if you knowingly do not report these issues you could yourself be disciplined and Fergie I don't know where you work but in my experience the wrong-doers are caught and sacked. This is a serious matter.

In theory the state supports the practise of whistleblowing and this is in keeping with a lot of legislation.

However consider your career over as in reality few people like a snitch.

Hmmm I may have misinterpreted the OP's point of view. If the OP is concerned about reporting the conduct of fellow employees then reporting your concerns to your management is the appropriate course of action. Let them manage, its their job! Of course if nothing happens then that perhaps changes things.
