PPI - Can I claim ?

Hi,
I am posting this on behalf of my mum, we are unsure if she has grounds to claim...
She had a Mortgage with Cheltenham and Gloucester and received a leaflet from Lloyds selling PPI to cover the mortgage, the leaflet made it sound like my mum had to take out the PPI or would risk losing everything if she ever lost her job, etc. My mum took out the PPI based on the leaflets advice in July 2001, and she thinks there was a phone call to set up the ppi but we have no record to confirm this.
She only worked 20 hours pw at the time and the mortgage was for only £10,000 yet her monthly payments to cover the ppi were quite high at £16 pm which is quite a bit from a part time salary (back in 2001).
My mum switched her mortgage to RBS and the PPI policy was cancelled with no notification to her in Aug 2007.
Do you think she has a right to claim even though it was a leaflet that initially sold her the policy ???????
We are totaly clueless about things like this so would appreciate any info, advice or similar stories to this.
Thanks.

That is correct. If she had been unable to meet her mortgage payments there would have been no State help for nine months - by which time it might have been too late to save her home.lovepayday wrote: »the leaflet made it sound like my mum had to take out the PPI or would risk losing everything if she ever lost her job, etc.
That would not prevent the lender taking her home if it was the only way to get its money back. She only worked 20 hours pw at the time and the mortgage was for only £10,000
The premium is a commercial decision on the part of the insurer and intended to meet the cost of claims, the cost of running its business and, since there is no point in being in business otherwise, earning a reasonable profit.her monthly payments to cover the ppi were quite high at £16 pm which is quite a bit from a part time salary
Unless the leaflet was misleading, and it does not sound like it was, then no.Do you think she has a right to claim even though it was a leaflet that initially sold her the policy ?0 -
Wow pardon me a non financial person for simply asking advice! I thought this was a forum for advice ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Not insults ?????
the whole basis of my question if you would put your soap boxes away for a second and read it properly was "can I claim" "does she have grounds to claim" obviously thats why I was asking for advice, surely if I was a claim chaser I would know the ins and outs of the claim process and not be asking for advice on here!
So I thank you for your comments but please dont attack me for being a claim chaser for simply asking advice!
I see from both of your other comments on peoples posts today that you both seem to be rather ratty perhaps go have a lie down and a little nap you seem a little cranky!
Wow I can see why people in your industry get such a bad name - if you belittle and insult!!!!0
