Amazon is as cheap as any on the day. However if you have a member of the family in education either as a student or teacher you may be eligible for the student discount till the end of March 2012 - see software4students. Just note that you can do a clean install with the upgrade version. Others here will no doubt advise you on the merits of Linux etc.0

Have you considered one of the free Linux operating systems? One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0

Amazon do seem to be the cheapest today. I would recommend Home Premium over Home edition.
Windows 7 Home Premium OEM - £71.06 with free delivery.
OEM means that you won't get support from Microsoft, but due to a change in their licensing you are allowed to purchase and install without purchasing hardware.
Hope this helps.Thanks

So are you saying if I buy this below
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Upgrade Edition
It would do everything I need just like buying windows 7,I'm a bit weary as it says upgrade version ie do you need the original windows 7 pro edition ?? Sorry for this I'm a total novice0 -

You would need a current Operating System, whether it is XP or Vista.0 -
You could buy the following:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-OEM-software-intended-builders/dp/B004Q0PT3I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331062630&sr=8-1
This version does not require a previous operating system. Thanks
