Is it just me or does anyone born in the 80's feel a bit hard done to?!
- Because I wanted to better myself I had to get myself in debt to get an education. As I was one of the people that took a student loan out between 1998 and 2005 I will now be paying it back for up to 43 years as I was 22 when I graduated.
- Despite the fact I earn a reasonable salary for my age I cannot afford to buy a house due to the massive increases in values over the past 8 years.
I honestly feel that education is a right, not a privilege. The government have pushed for people to go to university which in turn has devalued a degree and it is more and more a standard job requirement.0 -

I don't because if it hadn't been for the student loan system I would have been unable to go to university. Loans mean that you don't have to have stacks of money in the present period to attend uni so it is more of a right now than it has ever been. The negative side is of course that more people have access to higher education and so the returns to a degree fall.

I'm wa in the same position and wouldn't have been able to go to uni without a SL. My point is that under different, former means tested regimes i'd never have had to pay it pack or as much etc. Even students now get their SL debt written off after 25 years (even though they borow more as their loan now consists of tuition fees too)

Another shoulder and yet another chip.
Work hard, make the best of what you've got, you might be surprised what happens!0 -

I haven't got a chip on my shoulder and I certainly don't think the world 'owes me a favour' my point is it would be nice to be on an even playing field!
Completely agree with you there mate, it would be nice to be on an even playing field! Everytime I have a lil rant over the fact that all my neighbours dont work, dont pay rent/council tax, get more than enough to live on in benefits etc and Im struggling financially I half expect to hear the old "No one is forcing you etc". If people decided to take the same attitude then this country would be even worse than it currently is.0
