Girlfriend redundant 0k, does my 60k salary mean no Housing Benefit?!

Though the unfairness of this sort of situation is that the OPs salary is expected to support 2 people but it will be taxed exactly the same as if it supported just one.I'm actually in agreement with you. On 18k per year i can get by. It's not comfortable living, but you make the most of what you've got. 60k is over 3x what i get, so if 18k can cover 1 of me, i'm sure 60k could cover 2 folk.
If the benefits system recognises that partners support each other, then so should the tax system. But it doesn't. The OP will pay considerably more tax than 2 people on £30k each would.0 -

We share a 1 bed flat and pay £425 each per month (private rent) + ~£50 each in council tax.
I earn £60K per year so I believe that this is taken into account when assessing the housing benefit claim. I also have my own savings ~15k.
Is it worth her trying to claim housing benefit as now she can't pay any of her rent or council tax?
Will they just expect me to pay both halfs?! (£1000+, + bills etc)
Many thanks in advance for any info.
Are u SERIOUS??????

You don't, well, except for the likes of Emma Harrison's A4E and other private finance initiatives.
Don't worry though, with all of the benefit cuts planned in the years ahead, your taxes will be reduced, right?0 -
It is always worth it for her to put in a claim for housing benefit. If the council does not see you as a couple she will get her half of the rent paid. She will also get a 25% reduction on the total amount of the council tax bill which should reduce her share by 50%. She can also claim JSA if she is looking for a job. However, the payments will only be made if she can convince the DWP and council that you are not her loving and supporting partner. i.e if she can convince them she is a lodger and if she does not pay her half of the rent then she must leave the property and someone else must replace her to help pay the bills.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Looks like OP is a TROLL to me?0

might be difficult to convince them you are not in a relationship in a one-bed property. If she cannot get housing benefit are you going to trade her in for someone that can pay half the rent?0

£60k is a take home of £3,465.
Rent is £850
Council tax for two is £100
£3,465 - £850 - £100 = £2,515
The Government work on a couple needing £460/month to live on after housing costs.
So, you're still £2k ahead.
Answer is no.0 -
Me and my husband are on a combined income of £5058 per year and we are having our benefits cut. I wish I had the problem the OP has got.0

I used to earn well over £100,000 a year in the late 80's early 90's. My net was £1350 a week.
Yet I was entitled to DLA and IIDB and my wife had Family Allowance for two children.
We were entitled despite my income, so what is so wrong with that?
The OP is only asking what he is entitled to!0
