How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I am another advocate of the Neti Pot, I gave one to my friend who suffered very badly with sinus congestion and pain and she said it changed her life!
My hubby uses it himself (he is a GP) and I try and convert everyone! It often saves you from developing a cold if you use it at the first signs. ( He is on the front line of germs and it has saved us from countless colds!)
The thing is, you need to get over the "ick" factor. I can't see the problem myself, it is your body, you do the rinsing in private????? The relief it gives you is amazing and I think that everyone should have one in their medicine chest.
NeilMed are a good one and are available on line (they are American but international) you can even get the sachets in Boots, though they are not cheap, slightly cheaper on line. We have used a half teaspoon of sea salt ours to good effect.0 -
Thanks for that info Guineapig. I REALLY don't like the sound of using a Neti pot but I've now had a sinus headache since Saturday and cough every time I lie down (don't worry not self diagnosed).
There's a limit to how many decongestants and painkillers I'm prepared to take, and they're not that successful anyhow.
So I'm going to take a deep breath ignore the YUK factor and get one.
Fingers crossed !0 -
I had it as a treat and wished I'd not, it felt uncomfortable and and silly me thought it was due to procedure , it's left me with ear pain and tinnitus. The TMJ is located just in front of the ear and it would seem that she put too much pressure on this and has done something to the disc...I have seen nothing like this on any information board... I really regret going ,,, so pls don't x0

I can do ear-candling but don't offer it as a therapy because of all the false claims make about it. When I took a course it was made very clear that ear candles can only work at an 'energetic level' which may or may not help you, and you have to be very careful.
I rarely use candles, usually using neti pot at first hint of a problem, then self-treat with Bowen &/ Emmett Technique for respiratory/sinus issues and call my homeopath.0 -
I don't know anyone who has used a neti pot who desn't think it's the best thing since sliced bread! Even an ENT specialist reccomended it to a patient ( that's an Ear, Nose and Throat consultant to those who are not sure).
I can't believe that when people blow their nose they get all squirmy and embarrassed? this is just the saline soloution and gravity doing the job for you, so not really icky, honest.
The only thing to mention is that, you might drip a bit for about half an hour after, so always a good job to do it when you are not planning on leaving the house for a few hours. ( I tend to do it at night).
BTW my dh loves his neti pot, but would call hopi ear candles "Snake Oil"!!!!LOL0 -

The first time I did it, after years of excruciating pain, it took about 6 fills to get any crud out, but once it started draining, it just didn't want to stop.
And then one of the higher sinuses didn't decide to drain until the following day at my desk at work. The consultant I worked just laughed and said she could guess what I had done the night before.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Well reporting back, I used the Neti pot for the first time last night.
It was surprisingly easy, I thought I'd either end up swallowing it all or standing in a puddle but somehow I avoided both.
It seemed a large quantity of liquid but didn't take long to rinse through.
My sinuses had pretty much cleared up but I thought I'd give it a try anyhow. No snoring, sneezing or coughing so I'm happy.
I don't know that I'd would do this daily like flossing teeth (fib) but I'll definitely be using it aat the first signs of trouble.
Thanks for ther advice folks.0 -
