I'm having it done with my usual massage and facial tomorrow and am wondering just how weird it feels!!!I'm seriously prone to problems with my sinuses and it was recommended so I thought I'd give it a go.
Anyone had it done?Does it feel weird?Does it work well?
Thankfully it isn't costing much as it's a mobile beauty therapist who does great offers (and the only one who can ever fit me in in the two hours ds is at school lol),so if it doesn't work it's no big deal, just curious and a little nervous of having it done to be honest:o

Just have the massage.
Hoip ear candling is useless at best, and can be dangerous.
One of the worst examples of 'alternative' pseudo-medical rubbish.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ear_candlingHow to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

D'oh! I'd try anything to stop my sinuses annoying me and having to use steroids, sprays and antibiotics so muchThat has put me off though I have to say!
Will do a little more research now I think,I don't usually go for this kind of thing but heard so many people say it's great for helping to clear the sinuses:oIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

It's completely pointless.
And a waste of money."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

I use a saline spray regularly.Just hate having to do it lol it's not the nicest thing on earth to do!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I had hopi ear candling done a couple of times (a few years ago now) and found it really relaxing and my ears didn't feel as wet or sticky for ages after. It was meant to help with hayfever but I can't remember if it made any difference to mine.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I've never had problems with ear wax, purely doing it for sinus reasons so maybe it may not be worth it after all.
Back to loads of steaming I guess lol
Now what shall I have in place of the ear candling tomorrow?:DIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
In the canada.com page linked from Wikipedia,A paper published in the respected journal The Laryngoscope in 1996 described 21 cases of serious injury reported by ear, nose and throat specialists.
In some cases the molten wax actually burned through the eardrum. At least in two cases, people candled themselves and set their house on fire. One lady died.
The US FDA has issued a Patient Alert:The risks- fire
- burns to the face, ear canal, eardrum and middle ear
- injury to the ear from dripping wax
- plugging of the ears by candle wax
- bleeding
- perforation of the eardrum
- delay in seeking needed medical care for an underlying condition
FDA has received reports of burns, perforated eardrums and blockage of the ear canal which required outpatient surgery from the use of ear candles. And a survey of ear, nose and throat physicians published in 1996 in the medical journal Laryngoscope reported 13 cases of burns of the ear, seven cases of wax occlusion of the ear canal, and one case of a perforated eardrum. The authors of this study also reported that the burning ear candles dripped candle wax on the eardrum of the test subjects and in a model of the ear.
So rather than setting fire to your ears why not ask the practice nurse to give them a syringing out?A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
