Hi,
Can anyone help??
I took out a loan with HSBC in 2002 for £10,000 unfortunately the loan was taken over by Metropolitan Collections due to non payment. I satisfied the full loan with MC in 2008. I sent a letter last week to HSBC & MC (with £1 cheque for info) requesting the T&C's of the loan agreement as i no longer had copies. HSBC responded with a copy of the letter to MC and both cheques advising that they no longer held the information due to the loan being satisfied.
I dont know what my next step as im convinced i was misold PPI. Should i send a SAR or Ombundsman questionaire? And who should i send it to, HSBC or MC?
I would appreciate any help
Thanks
Andy

Hi and welcome
I would then continue to make a reclaim with the reasons you have by completing the reclaim FOS questionnaire, send to the business who set up and sold you the account.
Remember to keep copies.
Good luck.
A SAR is optional you can do so if you wish, there is a template letter for this on the above thread. The one and only "Dizzy Di"

thanks great help.
on the fos form it asks for the ppi policy number but i only have my current account number used by mcs on the loan repayment corespondance, should i leave it blank? also at the time of starting the loan i was a full time student but later consolidated the loan when i gained full time employment. will being a student mean i cannot claim back ppi for that period?
thanks andy0 -

That is where you went wrong. That method only applies to debts still outstanding.on the fos form it asks for the ppi policy number but i only have my current account number used by mcs on the loan repayment corespondance, should i leave it blank?
Write the account number and make it clear that it is the account number.also at the time of starting the loan i was a full time student but later consolidated the loan when i gained full time employment. will being a student mean i cannot claim back ppi for that period?
The student excuse works for the first loan but not the second loan.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. With no evidence, it is unlikely that your complaint will get anywhere.
If it does turn out that there is evidence that you had PPI they will consider whether it was missold.
If, and only if, it was, then a redress figure will be calculated.
This will first be used against any sum that it was necessary to write off to bring your account to a point where they were willing to settle the debt.
Then, and only then, will anything left over be passed to you.0 -
surely the debt recovery company (mc) should hold details of the loan agreement? they confirmed settlement of the account in 2008.
If i send the settlement letter to hsbc would they make an assesment based on this or will i be wasting my time?
thanks andy0
