Needed a new car, and after asking on here and looking around decided on a 57 Nissan Note. Took it for a test drive ( all seemed okay apart from a slight knocking) agreed to trade in my old car, and a price with a 12 month warranty. So a week later my new car is not quite ready as an engine warning light has come on when they serviced it and they have decided to get it fixed rather than me only having to come back if it comes on. So I had a courtesy car for a few days and then picked up my new car with that problem fixed. However, All was not right from the start. The knocking noise was louder, but the main issue was that when you switched the engine on the revs were all over the place.
So back on the phone I get, and the car gets taken back in last Thursday with them telling me they'll contact me later in the day. They don't so I end up finally phoning them to be told it's still having diagnostic tests at Nissan ( Vauxhall dealership so they'd sent it over there) Another courtesy car and they'll contact me as soon as they know what's happening.
Today I attempt to contact them again and get the service manager who tells me that he had asked the sales manager to contact me. I refuse to come off the phone until he tells me what's the matter and apparently it's the timing belt. It's going to cost about £1400 for them to fix ( as Nissan will have to do it rather than them) so apparently the sales manager was supposed to be phoning me to either offer my money back or try to sort me out with a new car!
So before he phones me tomorrow I just thought I'd see what you all thought. I obviously paid for the car, plus they gave me £700 trade in for my old car. I paid for 6 months road tax plus i've had to change my insurance details over, and will have to change them again if I get another car. I had put a full tank of petrol in it, and will now probably have to look around for, and buy a new car.
The car, all in with tax cost £4,852 of which £700 was my part ex. What should I say to them, agree to as compensation etc? Obviously if they offer me another car that's a lot better than the old one was I'll think about it, but I'm not impressed with their customer service at all. But otherwise I'm going to have to be without a car while I try to find another one. I have still got the courtesy car at the moment, and I'm certainly not going to rush to get that back to them, as I'm busy at work the next two days anyway so I won't be going in there till at least Thursday but I'm just so annoyed!

Can they not revert the deal and cover your ad hoc costs?
ie, give you your old car back and your money back?
The garage are within their rights with what they are doing. If there is a significant problem, they can opt for one of the following :-
(a) Pay for the repair
(b) Replace the car with an equivalent car. They are not obliged to give you a better car.
(c) Give you your money back
They can chose whichever is most economically appropriate for their business.0 -
I should imagine my old car has probably gone to auction by now. I don't mind if they give me my money back, I just expect at least something for the inconvenience and the extra expense that I have had to go through.
I don't mind an equivalent car, as long as I like it obviously,as long as I still get recompense for the inconvenience.
I actually don't really want them to repair it now, after the hassle I've been through with it!
Would you agree that I am entitled to the cost of changing the insurance, the car tax and the tank of petrol though?0
