Ford Fiesta Turbo Diesels - advice please
After much searching and test driving I have finally decided that a Ford Fiesta Turbo Diesel is what I would like to buy for my recently started daily commute of 80 miles. I will be buying second hand and have worked out the various trim levels and the minimum I would like is air con but Zetec trim upwards would be favourite.
My question is, is it worth paying the extra for the "new shape" that has been around since 2009 or are the slightly older models essentially the same in a slightly different body? Initially I was looking at paying up to about £5k but is it worth paying a bit more for the new shape?
Thanks for your help, Kate

The new Mk.7 is a new car with an old name. The previous Mk.6a is just a "facelifted" Mk.6 - ie. new light clusters, etc.
I have a 2004 Mk.6 1.4L TDCi Zetec and love it to bits. Just over 52mpg and £30 VED.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I think its personal choice and whether someone like the new model over the old or vice a versa but with little experience i have got with the cars all i can say is that when a new model comes in the market, people do find some problems with them and as the time progress, the company makes changes to overcome those problems but with the older models or end of the line ones u havent got that kind of problems and when the new model comes than these companies lower there prices to sell there old stocks so people do get some bargains in there as well. I am not saying that new fiesta would have problems but there could be few things or technologies which they might have introduced in the new model but its you who got to decide whether its worth paying more or not. Best of luck with whatever you decide to go forIf it ever got to the point where i have no money to eat. I would go to the police station and break something to get myself arrested. Atleast i would get a warm cell and food and if everyone who get SANCTIONED by the job center did that than the government would have to change there policy about sanctioning so many people on the work program.0

There are a few models.
The Mark 6 was introduced around 2003-2006
The Mark 6.5 (Facelift) Was 2006-2009
The Mark 7 (And latest version) is 2009-Present.
The differences between the mark 6.5 and mark 7 are very very big... size of the vehicle, quality and engines have been all changed! Weirdly I've owned all 3 versions and can say the Mark 7 is defo the better of the 3!0 -
Thanks all, and particularly Adamc260 who seems to be a Fiesta expert
It may well be worth paying a bit more then. I've spotted a rather nice Mark 7 (get me!) Titanium spec 59 reg but it has 89k miles on the clock. It's a 1.6TDCI so I am hoping that the larger diesel engine copes with higher mileage.
Anyone have any experience with high mileage diesel Fiestas?0 -

Remember, whilst diesel engines are renowned for lasting longer than petrol, the rest of the car is the same.
89k miles is extremely high for a 59 car ... but if the price is right it should last you 3 years at your annual mileage.
Make sure it has a full service history (every 12.5k miles) and check requirements for extended service items such as timing belts."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
My father was a driving instructor for 23 years and only ever had Fiestas.
His last two cars both had the 1.4TDCi unit (1.6 is based on this). They both did over 100,000 in three years. My sister took his last one and she has recently sold it with 130,000 on the clock. The only non service work she had done was a new injector. Original exhaust and clutch and no sign of any other problems.0
