M&S vouchers..?

Just received a couple vouchers from M&S through the post as i'm a new customer to them.

One says earn 300 points worth £3 on clothing & home

The other is a 200 point voucher on food.

Are these vouchers only to be scanned with spending within a M&S store? I don't see anything on the voucher which says this is the case, but i can't see that they'd allow it to be scanned in say, Sainsburys.

If it says M&S on them I would presume that you can only use them there.

And you usually need to use your M&S card for the purchase.

Yeah i understood the requirement for using the card. The vouchers just didn't specify that they HAD to be swiped in M&S. I just figured that they would need to be though.

Have you looked at the back of the vouchers? They normally say "Valid in Marks & Spencer stores in the UK and Channel Islands etc.....and online."
".....where it is corrupt, purge it....."

unless I am mistaken these vouchers require the till to report back to the credit card company that you have used the coupon either by scanning a barcode or staff entering a code and I don't think it is likely that a non M&S till will have the facility to report back to M&S cards that you qualify for the points

Just as a Tesco clubcard / Nectar bonus points voucher will only credit the points if used in the relevant store because the stores do not share data with rival stores

If they were money off vouchers with an EAN barcode they may work in other stores

I think you're still a bit sore from getting your behind spanked over the iPhone issue.

Taking its time to heal is that.

Some more info about these reward vouchers... they have unique barcodes and will not work more than once - but as an added fraud measure, once redeemed they are treated with the same security as cash and get sent to head office to be verified/destroyed.

They have the M&S logo printed on them so it is common sense that they are for use in M&S, OP is clearly challenging the frontiers of this widely held trait of humanity.

The reasons why it is only for use in M&S are firstly because it is a loyalty card and shopping elsewhere is not a smart reward for being a loyal customer; secondly it only really costs M&S about 50% of the amount redeemed because the rest is profit margin, which it wouldn't be if it was spent in sainsbury's; and finally the scheme pulls credit card spenders into stores with a few pounds in vouchers to spend - they end up spending loads and returning every time they have 'free money' to spend.

I work there and i have yet to hear anyone ask if they can take them to sainsbury's :)
