Country lanes - why does nobody know the rules anymore??
I regulary drive to work along 5 or 6 miles of country lanes and also occasionally cycle them too.
I am amazed how I never see anyone walking on the correct side of the road.
I see people of all age groups, some the same ones each morning and everyone these days seems to think you should walk with the flow of the traffic on the left hand side.
Is it no longer common knowledge that on a road with no footpath that you should walk facing the on coming traffic??
I know on a bend, people might prefer to take the outside of it, but I am staggered how few people seem to know the right way to walk when they clearly live or use such roads on a regular basis.

At Christmas I nearly knocked someone down who was walking along the wrong side of the road IN THE FOG.
And there was a pavement. Madness!0 -
Also why do some drivers think they can drive down the middle of the road. Have nearly ended up in the ditch several times!0

Met a nutter driving a skateboard down a country lane, at night, raining, down the middle. Lucky I was just past the bendy bits.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Never mind the car drivers - came round a sharp corner yesterday, to come face to face with a 'jogger' who seemed to think his hi viz jacket made him indestructible - he was running in the middle of my side of the road, presumably to avoid the puddles! Fortunately I don't drive at high speeds on country roads...Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Last week in the fog, I passed a jogger on the road dressed like someone from Mission Impossible. All in black! They do say black is slimming, but !!!!!!
He was running into the flow of traffic though.0 -
We were talking about this yesterday after overtaking a man jogging away from us.
It's like it is lost knowledge.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth

I prefer to think of it as Darwins theory, the human race is gradually ridding itself of bad genes.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

How; you would need to run a few over to remove them from the gene pool.
Mind you:- If its idiot proof, then nature will evolve a better idiot.0 -

May be looking at things through rose tinted glasses, but many years ago, when I was at infant school, most kids walked to school, and part of the education included basic rules of crossing the road safely, which would inevitably cover how to walk along roads with no pavement. Richer kids had bikes and did their cycling proficiency too!
