I really need to hire a car and do not have a credit card ( I also don't want one), however, if my daughter has one can she put me on as a secondary card holder? I will only use the card for the car and pay cash, then cut it up after I've used it. Is this possible?

Sorry forgot to mention I don't have a great credit rating

    Yes she can.

Phone call > 2 weeks > card in your name.

She may not want to though - she would be liable for anything you spend!

Would a prepaid credit card be a better option for you?

You may not want one but this situation shows you need one.
Could you do with not hiring a car?

Nope, not hiring a car is not an option, the place I am going to has NO public transport, I HAVE to have a credit card :o

Not all credit cards will allow others to be added as additional users - e.g. M & S will only allow spouses - they won't allow a son or daughter to go on as an additional cardholder (that was the position three weeks ago).

I think your post begs to differ.

PrePay cards are debit cards and are usually rejected by car hire firms, mainly because htey cannot 'shadow charge' the total cost of the hire to a debit card, especially if they plan to build in a seciroty deposit. Depending on the company, the cardholder pay see the available balance drop by £1k until 2 weeks after the car is returned.
