Council Tax

Hi all,
I am full time employed but I am thinking of sharing a two bedroom flat with a full time student. Is there a possibility of a council tax reduction in this case? I know that when living alone you get 25% discount and as a student you do not have to pay it at all, but how does it look like in our situation?
Thanks for your help

You are the employeed person require the student to provide their letter of entitlement from their education provider. Send that to the Council and you retin your single person's discount.
You may need a new one in September if they go back next year.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
You will still be liable to pay council tax but may get a single persons discount as you are the only one in the household liable for it, I believe, but someone else may be able to tell you more.0

Excellent, so there seems to be a chance to get the single persons discount. Thanks to both of you for your input!0

You will still get a 25% discount as long as they supply a student exemption certificate from their uni but you need to apply for a student discount, not a single occupier discount (as you won't be a single occupier!)0

Ok, a student disregard then but strictly speaking they cannot get a single person discount if they are not a single occupier, they have to apply for the student disregard instead0

I have just done this for my student lodger, it was as simple as a phone call. They updated the records and then sent me the form to fill in and send back with the form she got from the university.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0
