Poet - I do agree with you about the knickers they showed last night. Maybe she's just starting off with one style to see how they go. She'd need a small range of knickers to suit most people I think. There's never going to be one pair of knickers that will appeal to all of us is there?

A pair that made my bum go to size 10, didn't show my vpl but didn't go up my bum either, gave to a flat stomach but I could get off easily without suffocating from the amount of lycra in it and came with a matching bra.

I'd buy that, so would everyone else I reckon.

I'm sorting through my laundry basket now and I have a pair of m&s knickers which are made in Sri Lanka. I know they are at least 8 years old as I bought them before I went to in a holiday to Egypt and I remember wearing them there.

The whole employing people in Britain is admirable, but the importing of goods keeps people in employment too. Where does benefit of the employment of British stop and my personal benefit start?

Every time I buy something should I just consider if it benefits Britain or me?

Shall I order something to be delivered or collect it from a shop? Weigh up the post manufacturer benefits of courier and postal workers, and therefore van manufacturers, mechanics, cost to road repairs keeping people employed to maintain those etc or those of hgv deliveries to shops, mechanics wgho service my car, car parking warden, keeping shop assists in employment etc.

The whole made in Britain thing is a complete sales ploy and a tiny fraction of the big picture.
The benefit to you of better empoyment rates in uk is a reduced benefits and support bill, which means either a lower tax bill, or more liokely maintaining providence of services you or people around you use! Successful british business is of benefit to all of us who live here.

I've just completed a couple of hours ironing - just back from hols so mainly T shirts, shorts and very light gear.
Have made a note of where the items were made.

Firstly, I was really surprised because 7 items had no details of where the item was made. And then there was ...
    5 x Bangladesh
    1 x Greece, 2 x Spain, 2 x Germany, 1 x China, 2 x India, 1 x Peru, 2 x Turkey, 1 x Sri Lanka. Not one item of clothing made in UK.

There were 2 Tea Towels amongst my ironing and BOTH were made in the UK though !!:j:j
When you're ironing you also notice how badly some of it is made, but then it's very cheap. Side seams which twist when you try and iron them flat, hems which curl up on themselves because they've scrimped on fabric and buttons hanging off because they haven't been sewn on properly.

Let's hope so, they were lurid and tacky. Surely for her first venture into knickers(better not go there!) she could have come up with something a little more upmarket, especially if she is expecting the average woman to pay £10 per pair. The ones shown will go down well on the gypsy wedding prog though.:rotfl:

When she's touting that she's trained apprentices in 'using traditional lace making techniques' frankly yes.

She hasn't trained them in that at all, she's trained them how to use a lace making machine, doesn't have quite the same nostalgic ring to it though does it.

That lace doesn't even look like it's made on a more 'traditional' lace machine, it looks like mass-produced, nylon crap. You can tell the difference you know. Which is fine, but sell it for what it is, not by making it out to be something is isn't.

    :rotfl::rotfl:

I think you might be wrong there. They will not be making the lace, it will be bought in but made locally by the guy who lives on the barge and has a small factory. They will be machining and overlocking and that's what they will be trained for.

That's how most factories work. You buy in elastic, maybe poppers, buttons, zips etc (depending on what your item is) and then it is made-up. I used to work in the knitwear trade and the yarn was bought in from spinners and dyers. It was then knitted up on massive knitting machines, labelled, pressed, packaged and distributed to, mainly, chainstores throughout the UK.

Which I can totally appreciate but its not just about the person sat stitching the knickers, as MP would like us to think.

Yes, i really do like them, and there are ivory and black ones too . I have an eclectic knicker draw with a fair few bright colours in alopng with classics and pale colours. I like knickers a lot!

When i am outside trudgeing around in mud its nice to know my knickers are brighter than my work clothes and the mud. Same when i am doping housework I am not suggesting i wear them under white linin trousers opr show them to people, they are just nice and uplifting!

I like knickers too, didn't see the ivory and black, they sound more to my taste though.

ETA , Just had a look, the neutral ones are ok, the lace does look cheap though.
