Ive paid £10 for a pair of pretty knickers but they were pretty special and i wouldnt make a habit of it unless i'd got good reason.

My usual day time knickers are £7 for a pack of from M&S... pretty boring really but at least the colour matches my bra.

Oh and big knickers might not be sexy but at least they cover the stretchmarks left behind after having the kids.:(

I'm a big girl up top so I just want nice sets. Pretty matching sets for smaller chested girls can be really cheap for a nice set (under £20). I want a E/F cup bra but go to a place that makes sets in our size and they don't often do size 12 knickers. If they do they are £20 a pair.

I don't care where things are made. If I could get a £10 pair of knickers that had a decent sized bra for a decent price then I'd buy it.

    This is so mis-leading
Love your country with Kinky Knickers: made in Britain from the finest quality lace. Mary Portas is turning the lights back on for great British manufacturing, and chose seven apprentices to be trained the traditional lace making techniques that Manchester was once famed for. The result of their hard work is a range of irresistible undies that are sexy, comfortable and without a VPL in sight. Show your support for UK production and wear your new knickers with pride!

They are so very clearly made with machine made lace, not made using traditonal techniques at all. They look no different to the lace knickers in Primark.

I wouldn't be putting all that nylon round my chuff.

I would! I agree with Mary Portas that it is criminal that all clothing/hosiery/underwear factories have disappeared and we're buying stuff from China, Romania, Indonesia etc.

All those jobs gone! :( I used to work as Secretary to the Managing Director of a huge knitwear factory in the Midlands with 6 smaller factories dotted throughout the Midlands. It employed thousands of peoples - designers, overlockers, pressers, hand-finishers, menders, machinists ... and then there were drivers, canteen staff, cleaners, secretaries, accountants, payroll clerks etc.

I am also old enough to remember factories where you could go and buy clothes, socks and underwear which were made in the UK for M & S and which were wonderful quality. Look at the rubbish in M & S now - all made abroad and most of it shoddy.

Why do people complain about the price of a pair of pants (made in UK) which should last for ages, yet they will willingly go and pay £5 for a magazine, £6 for a packet of cigs, even more on alcohol and take-away food. I just don't get it.

I'd pay more if she sacked that moaning gobby girl she took on.

Full of germs but she didn't want to feel left out. Not self centred much then?

Sorry, not feeling terribly nice today. :o

Did you imagine there would be little ladies sitting there making lace by hand :rotfl::rotfl: That kind of lace is still made by people who belong to a Lacemakers guild but it is only used for very small and heirloom items. To make enough lace (by hand) for a pair of knickers would take months for one pair!

Lace has been made by machines for hundreds of years.

I would pay it if I liked them but tbh I think MP always looks stylish (if quirky) herself but somehow that just doesn't translate to how her line in clothes look on "ordinary" women. Or to what she puts out under her brand.

I went to House Of Frazer in London just before xmas and her dept was almost empty, and those that were there were chatting with the staff that they felt they "knew" from watching them on TV!! The rails were full of dresses that, without trying them on, you just knew wouldn't look good unless accessorised to the hilt to detract from the shapeless style of the garment. Which to me misses the point.

Anyway, back to knickers, I haven't seen the range but the ones on TV last night looked cheap and tacky in that scratchy cheap lace. If she couldn't make them for less than tenner then there is no hope fot British manufacturing.

I'm sorting through my laundry basket now and I have a pair of m&s knickers which are made in Sri Lanka. I know they are at least 8 years old as I bought them before I went to in a holiday to Egypt and I remember wearing them there.

The whole employing people in Britain is admirable, but the importing of goods keeps people in employment too. Where does benefit of the employment of British stop and my personal benefit start?

Every time I buy something should I just consider if it benefits Britain or me?

Shall I order something to be delivered or collect it from a shop? Weigh up the post manufacturer benefits of courier and postal workers, and therefore van manufacturers, mechanics, cost to road repairs keeping people employed to maintain those etc or those of hgv deliveries to shops, mechanics wgho service my car, car parking warden, keeping shop assists in employment etc.

The whole made in Britain thing is a complete sales ploy and a tiny fraction of the big picture.

Poet - I do agree with you about the knickers they showed last night. Maybe she's just starting off with one style to see how they go. She'd need a small range of knickers to suit most people I think. There's never going to be one pair of knickers that will appeal to all of us is there?

When she's touting that she's trained apprentices in 'using traditional lace making techniques' frankly yes.

She hasn't trained them in that at all, she's trained them how to use a lace making machine, doesn't have quite the same nostalgic ring to it though does it.

That lace doesn't even look like it's made on a more 'traditional' lace machine, it looks like mass-produced, nylon crap. You can tell the difference you know. Which is fine, but sell it for what it is, not by making it out to be something is isn't.
